Friend's last wish
Kalpana was
working hard for hours. She kept feeling so nervous. She was feeling so
positive. She was cooking in kitchen for so many hours. She was feeling so
tired. She was getting upset step by step. She knew that she needed to feel
positive but she was getting negative on every step. Her negativity was
increasing on every step. She was good cook. Many people told her but today she
was planning to open one stall. It was going to be clearly more difficult. Her
hopes were in big problem. She was needed to pack all properly otherwise it
wouldn't look attractive. She couldn’t even get any help for packing. Her husband
Ravi made it clear from beginning that in their limited budget they couldn’t
find any help. Ravi was nice man & helpful husband but their budget was
limited. She needed to handle all in it. She needed to spend so much for raw
material that it needed lots of money. She needed to purchase raw material of
good quality. She couldn’t get nice product by using bad quality. So, she
purchased costly raw material. She was careful regarding hygiene too. She
stored every thing carefully in her house but now she needed to place it properly in stall too. It was going to be problematic for her. She knew that
she needed to do all packing & properly arrange it in store. She cooked all
her items properly. She cooked few items of variety. But as she planned to
place it in shop. She began to feel she needed more variety. People would be
upset by not having different types of varieties. She knew that readymade
products of different brands had them all. But they didn’t actually have those
tastes. She felt that they were not actually good products like her. Nothing
could be like her home-made products but still people wanted fancy look. She
looked towards her packaging. She sensed that it was nothing fancy. She began
to feel so nervous. On that time vehicle she called for shifting her stuff
came. She began to place every thing one by one. Clearly driver got irritated.
Driver “You don’t have any professional person to help you!” She felt so
nervous. She clearly didn’t have one. She slowly began to think who could help
her. Driver said loudly “Madam at least call your husband! He can spend one day
to help you surely!” She knew that he wouldn’t. He was earning & her
earning were nonexistent. She couldn’t call him. She said “Don’t worry I will
do it.” Step by step she loaded all. Driver was kind enough to help her little
bit. But Driver kept telling her that she was taking big risk. Driver “You need
to display it & sell. It’s not easy. You need contacts & help.” She
just nodded. She slowly said “Actually I got this stall free from my friend so
I am not paying renting. I am just trying to set up business.” “Oh! Then it’s
great.” She didn’t explain to Driver
that her friend was already dead. Her friend wrote this in will so family of
this dead friend permitted her to do it. They were rich & they didn’t mind.
They just wanted to fulfil last wish of her friend. Her friend wanted her to
give it one try. She was doing it just for her friend.
Kalpana shivered with fear when she
entered in that stall. It was in market full of crowd. Every shopkeeper was
ready to sell products. They all looked her with doubt. She was clearly one
inexperienced woman who was trying to set shop according to all. She slowly
began to arrange tables & started to keep her products. Suddenly one lady
came & took one package in hand. That lady tried to smell it. Clearly, she
didn’t approve that smell. Kalpana was so shocked. She was not expecting
someone to just enter in her shop like that. She asked sweetly “What do you
want Madam?” “Are you truly planning to sell this stuff?” She nodded but she
already started to feel nervous. She smiled & said “Madam this is hand made
products. They all taste nice.” “Where is sample?” Kalpana smiled. She had kept
some part of pieces as sample. She immediately offered it. Now that lady liked
smell. She tasted it too. But then that lady declared “It’s too costly & left.” After that Kalpana just keep sitting on one chair. Kalpana was hoping at
least little bit sell. But soon she sensed that nothing was going to happen.
Then one elderly shopkeeper came. “You are alone here.” “Yes!” “You can’t just
start like that. You need someone with experience to guide you.” She felt so
confused. That elderly shopkeeper explained “I learnt this from my father &
Uncle now my son & daughter learn it from me. You need someone like that.”
She didn’t like this suggestion at all. She knew that if she said this in house
Ravi immediately stopped her from running this shop. She wanted to keep trying.
She needed to do it for her friend. Her friend wanted her to try. She just said
“I can’t get more help. I need to try my best.” That elderly man nodded with
sad face. She returned to her shop & started to arrange all. She was no
longer certain of her success. She was scared from beginning but now she began
to see clear signs of failure while all others had knowledge & support. She
didn’t have any of it. She was trying her level best to sell but people were
just eating samples. Finally, her samples finished & she began to tell them
that she didn’t have any. They made faces & went away. But she was glad.
She didn’t want to just distribute everything free. If she couldn’t able to
sell, she would distribute it in her friends & relatives. It was better
option. But she knew that her luck was moving in worst way. She felt so sad.
Ravi was happy that Kalpana was sitting
in that shop. She didn’t need to even pay rent. He wanted Kalpana to go out.
This way he could enjoy his privacy while he didn’t need to spend on Kalpana.
Little bit spending on her raw material was okay. It was giving him good
reputation before people. All felt that he invested so much for his wife. All
began to admire him. He could boost this to everyone. By doing this he managed
to turn Kalpana his slave. He could enjoy his life happily without actually
giving anything to her. He was spending so much money on himself daily that
many people around him began to ask questions. Then he was even enjoying
company of few women. He knew that people were talking about it too. He didn’t
want Kalpana to complaint about it. So, he needed to keep this distraction.
Kalpana was not exactly interested in learning about their financial position
since he made it sure that she must be kept out of those things. Sometimes
Kalpana’s parents asked few questions but he knew how to divert subject. He
always began to discuss about child. Kalpana didn’t able to get pregnant until
now. He was planning to use it properly. He knew that he could blame all on
her. He was certain that they were too scared to verify. After all Kalpana was
in love with him & they were old fashioned people who felt scared of term
divorce. He was so happy due to it. Kalpana was working on that shop. He knew
that without guidance she couldn’t become successful shop keeper & he
managed to make sure that she wouldn’t get it. He managed to create negative
impact on her mind regarding getting help. He knew that she was not going to
earn much from that shop & it would break her confidejnce & spirit. He
wanted just that she was moving just the way he wanted. He needed to disturb
her more so he decided to make her one call. He called her. She didn’t take his
call immediately. He was so frustrated. Finally, she took it. In her low voice
she said “No one purchased anything.” “I told you already. But no worries. You
are not spending money on rent you can keep trying for some time.” She thanked
him out of tears & he smiled happily. Ravi was so happy. He knew that today
he could create some excuse of extra work & he could enjoy late night
party. He immediately said “I need to stay late for work in office today. It
might be over midnight.” “No worries. I can understand. I work so hard but earn
nothing…” She began to tell her sad story. He was not interested so he
immediately said “I need to start working. Bye.” She sensed that he
disconnected call suddenly. She felt so helpless. Her life was not moving in
right way. She wanted to run this shop but she couldn’t sell anything. She sat
in one corner of shop & started crying. She didn’t want to return to her
home. She was so scared. She was facing failures everywhere. She just wished
only if she had not married. Now she managed to drag Ravi in everything. It was
so frustrating. She was feeling so stressed. She just kept trying to increase
her bravery. But she didn’t sense that she fell asleep in that shop. She was there
in that shop. She just closed door temporarily. No one sensed that she was
inside. They locked everything. She heard those voices. She needed to come out
& tell them to let her go. But she didn’t she just kept sitting there. She
was asleep but those voices managed to wake her up. But she didn’t come out.
She just remained there. Ravi came late in home. But he was shocked when he
sensed that Kalpana was not in home. He began to ask everyone. He sensed that
no one knew where she was. Her parents decided to join him in search. They went
near shop. But gate was closed. When they insisted, finally security opened it
for them. They all went inside. Kalpana was in shop. She was sitting there. Her
eyes were not even close on that point. She was watching in darkness. Her mom
tried to talk but Kalpana was lost in her own world. Ravi felt so scared. Now
he didn’t want to take a mad woman home. Ravi immediately suggested calling
Doctor. Kalpana’s parents agreed too. They all felt positive about this. Doctor
came. Kalpana was taken to hospital. Then they declared that it was depression.
Kalpana was sent to mental hospital. When her psychiatric treatment started.
Ravi immediately started asking for Divorce. Her parents didn’t have much
options & they didn’t want him as son-in-law any more too. So, when Kalpana
came out, first thing she did was to take divorce. Then her parents selected
some experienced people as her staff to work in shop. Her shop slowly started
working. She never thought about getting married again. She was happy with her
life as shopkeeper. It was perfect world to her. But sometimes she wished only
if she got right sort of life partner but she didn’t & she accepted it. She
moved ahead with what she had. She started her life happily while making more
& more progress in business. She managed to complete wishes of her dead friend. She felt her friend had already sensed that Ravi was not good husband. Kalpana needed something else to survive & in last wish her friend provided it to her. Kalpana always kept remembering that friendship. It was best thing of her life. Her friend loved her more than her husband.
The End
