Broken things
Sandip was so happy when Kalpana called him. He knew that his marriage was not going in right way. He tried to become nice husband but it was not working. His every effort went in wrong way. He was nice man. He was trying so hard to become gentle with her. But it didn’t work. He got angry sometimes. He looked around. In his house he noticed many things which were broken by him. He knew that he had mental issue but he decided that they were not such big thing. He took call. Kalpana was talking in soft voice “So what is your decision?” “About what?” “Our marriage!” “What about it? We are already married.” She didn’t say anything for some time. Then she said “But we are not happy with each other.” “Who told you that? I can adjust with you. You are not perfect but I understand. No one is perfect in life. Just come back we will adjust.” Kalpana didn’t say anything for some time. Sandip was so odd. He was talking in such odd way. He was speaking in such tone as if she was planning to make apology. She didn’t understand why did he feel that way. She was upset with all. They were married for few years. She didn’t get pregnant until now so she was confused about her future. Her parents kept telling her that she just needed to get pregnant & all would be fine. But she was not so sure. She was feeling so uncertain. It was so painful. She didn’t understand where her future was taking her. She knew that she needed to remain calm & she was doing it. She didn’t like his attitude. She was not certain if they had child it would change. She felt scared that it might not change. In fact, she didn’t want child. She came to her parent’s house after their argument. He was almost ready to kill her this time. She remembered very well how did he was throwing things on her body. She was so scared. But when she reached to her parent’s house, they didn’t see any marks on her body so they decided that she was not hurt. Her father declared “Sandip was not planning to hit you at all. He was just scaring you. Come on! You need to adjust. You can see our house. It is small. We are just managing to handle our expenses. We don’t want one daughter who got divorced.” Her mom wanted to argue but Kalpana knew that it was useless so she stopped her mom. Her father had money for his entertainment & his desires but when it came to her or her mom, he didn’t have any. Kalpana knew very well that her father wanted her to marry Sandip since Sandip was just like her father. Her father always enjoyed when Sandip dominated her. Her father wanted her to go back to Sandip. She didn’t want to but she didn’t have much option so she called him. But Sandip was talking in odd way. He was living in different world. He didn’t even sense that he did mistake by throwing things on her. He felt it was her mistake. She didn’t say anything. Finally, she said “I will call you after few days I need to do some work.” “OH! I understand. You must help your parents. I will visit them soon.” She shivered with fear. She didn’t want him to visit her parents. But she knew that she couldn’t stop. Her father wouldn’t listen. She just kept quiet. He smiled & decided to visit her parents soon. Gtt
Kalpana didn’t like this idea at all. She was expecting to relax herself. Instead, she began to cook in her parent’s house to please Sandip. She knew that her father wanted special respect for Sandip in their house. She was daughter of that house but still her father admired Sandip lot more than her. She was feeling so negative about all. Her mom came in kitchen & looked towards her with tense look. Her Mom “Why you need to do so many things for him after what he done to you?” “Mom, I need to go back! He is my husband. I don’t have much options. I must return so I want to keep him happy at any cost. This way he will be happy.” “Then he will not hit you anymore?” She didn’t answer that question. She just changed subject. But her mom knew the answer. Mom “Only if your father had died you could have returned home. One day he will die then you can divorce that husband.” Kalpana smiled sweetly towards her mom. Her mom was right. Her father was worst person. His death would be one welcome thought for all. Only Sandip would feel sad about it. Sandip always admired her father. She knew that her father always inspired him. She felt so sad. She was born in wrong house. She wanted a father who cared for her. But then she felt that was wrong thought. Sandip would have cause lot more harm to her father if her father had been nice man. Sandip was evil person. She had no doubts about it. She needed to keep him happy so she was cooking for him with full attention. She wanted to cook in best style. She didn’t want to listen abuse & taunts. She began to sense that she didn’t have much option than cooking. She wanted to escape her destiny. But she didn’t. She kept remaining stuck in it. She didn’t find a way out of it. Her Mom was telling her to ignore husband. But it was not possible. In her heart she was glad that they didn’t have children. She didn’t want children. It was scariest thought for her. She didn’t want to give birth to child in that house & grew her baby under guidance of Sandip as father. It was worst nightmare but she didn’t dare to say it. She took deep breath. She started to calm herself. She kept cooking in her best style. Soon wonderful smell of her cooking started to fill entire house. It was so pleasant. But her father didn’t plan to say it. Kalpana needed to be treated like low level creature. Her father always wanted her to stay that way. He liked Sandip when Sandip taunted her. Many people told him that Sandip was not right person to became his son-in-law. But he wanted that type of son-in-law only. He knew Sandip wouldn’t admire Kalpana too much.
Sandip was working hard in his office on that day. That was special day for him. New client just visited factory & he needed to impress client. Sandip always concentrated on running around clients. He always talked so sweetly with client that they couldn’t sense his true feelings. Most of the time he hated all his clients but he was great at pretending. But today he wanted to leave early. He needed to do it to please Kalpana. Sometimes he felt that he was pampering her too much. She needed to be treated strictly. But this time he decided to talk sweetly. He even managed to select one gift for her. After talking with his friends, he left early. His friends were clearly shocked. He never loved his wife that much. But that day Sandip decided to act differently. Kalpana was cooking food carefully. But suddenly she looked around. She saw one bottle of chilly sauce. She kept looking towards it. Slowly she stopped there. Suddenly Kalpana sensed that she was standing before Sandip. She was serving him. She didn’t remember when she set this table. She didn’t remember anything after that chilly sauce. She looked around. Sandip was eating. Every one was enjoying. Clearly food was tasty. She didn’t understand where was that chilly sauce. She was so scared. She heard from people that some people developed such issues after stress. She needed to handle it on her own. He looked around. Only her mom was hopeful one. On that point Sandip decided to drink juice. She felt so confused. She never did juice. She wanted to stop him. But she was so scared. He took one glass of juice. As soon as he started to drink, he began to vomit. He started to feel uneasy. He said “What did you add in juice?” She couldn’t answer. She didn’t remember making it. Her father immediately called Doctor who advised to call ambulance. Sandip went in hospital in ambulance. She was certain that he would send her in jail. But she didn’t care. She just wanted to remember all. But she couldn’t. After sometime Cops came. They took her to Police station in Police car. She didn’t say anything. Finally, after few hours she confessed that she didn’t remember anything. Cops asked different questions. She answered all honestly. One Cop said “You don’t need to worry. It was just chilly sauce he will not die. We understand your mental situation. What about remaining in Psychiatric care for some time?” She immediately nodded. She said “I need it. I try so hard to remember but I can’t. I want to act in correct way. I hate Sandip but I don’t want to become like him.” So, she went in Psychiatric care. Sandip sent her divorce letter soon. She signed it. She knew that now she would be just burden for her father. She never wanted to live with Sandip. Her luck was bad. But when she came out, suddenly she got one nice opportunity. Her one old classmate was widower. He was planning to remarry & start life. Her mom arranged meeting. She met him. They got married. Soon they had their first child. Kalpana was working as salesgirl side by side while taking care of her child. She wanted to do some job. Her husband didn’t mind. It was odd she never got pregnant when she was married to Sandip but this time she immediately got pregnant. It must be her mental issue since Sandip also got child from his second marriage. They were just not made for each other. Kalpana kept saying it & pretending but she couldn’t avoid watching dark circles under eyes of Sandip’s wife. She knew that Sandip was nightmare but she was not going to say it now. She just talked positively about Sandip & Sandip also didn’t abuse her. They both decided to remain polite. Sandip always kept saying “ She has mental issues it is not her crime.” But she never discussed his mental issues which he was never planning to solve. She knew that it was none of her business now. She just concentrated on her husband & child while ignoring Sandip & his remarks.
