Tenants of mind
Jatin was watching movie with full attention. It was so nice and interesting. He was totally lost in world of imagination. He always loved staying in his imagination. He liked it. He was finally alone in his house after so many days. He was so upset. He kept thinking about it. In different angles it seemed so nice. He was watching it carefully. It was a murder movie. He loved it. On that point his mobile rang. It was his girlfriend Charu. He knew that Charu wanted to spend sometime with him. He desired same thing. He knew that spending it with just her didn't feel safe. He knew that she was modern etc. But still he didn't want to cross limits. He didn't want to become father of child without marriage. He was not even sure that Charu would be good wife for him. He didn't want to marry to just get divorce. It seemed so wrong. It looked as if he was using her. But he didn't understand if he was using her or she was using him. It was hard to understand but he didn't see much permanent future for them. He felt as if their future was doomed. So he didn't want to call her or encourage her. He knew that he needed to say it on her face. But he didn't want to break her heart. It was painful. He knew that he needed a girlfriend during his college time. But now he was at last year. Now he needed to give serious thought to this concept. If he was planning to marry her, it was different thing. But she was so different. He liked her company. He even liked her imagination. But still he sometimes felt that she was crossing limit. She just began to get so involved in her imagination that she lost sense of reality. It managed to irritate him. He still remembered on that day when she pointed towards a person in restaurant. At beginning it looked funny. She told him to go & ask change of money from him. He felt so thrill in her dare. He felt as if he was becoming man. She presented it that way. She said " Listen to me. Today I am setting a challenge before you for winning my heart." He laughed. He said " I thought I already have it." She gave strange smile and said " No you don't but you need it!" " And who told you that?" Her smile vanished. She asked with serious face " Are you dating someone else?" " No..no I don't!" " Then why don't you desire my heart? I am beautiful and charming!" He started laughing again. He left that she was just teasing but soon he sensed seriousness in argument. He felt so confused. He asked with shock. " You truly want me to go and ask for change?!" " Yes I want you but I don't feel you are brave enough to do so!" He smiled. He thought that it was joke but still her smile seemed like true challenge. He laughed and said " You don't really mean it!" She nodded. He didn't feel that it was serious. Just for fun he went. He asked for change of his note. Luckily that man was nice he smiled and gave him change. But Jatin didn't like her attitude. She didn't seem like sound woman. She seemed something odd. He didn't like the way she pushed him. Next day she once again started insisting on taking change from same man. He could see this man was upset on that day. He didn't like to disturb him. He said " Charu there is limit to everything. We must not harass someone like that!" " Really are you scared? I mean many girls from my class room suggested that you are too coward for any stunt. In fact one was telling you are just useless I need to change you. I need to either improve you or find another one!" He was so shocked. He never thought that she was discussing him like that. Then he knew that he discussed it with his friends too. But they never taunted her like that. Just one day one friend said " Be careful. Don't waste too much money on her. You will need saving for future. I don't feel she will marry you!" He was shocked. He asked " Why?" " Because she wanted money. She needed rich boy. You are just her first step. She selected you as college boyfriend nothing big!" Another friend added " Keep this in mind. This is not serious otherwise you will land in trouble. Her parents will search rich boy for her then she will start dating him and you will be forgotten story." " This is not right!" All friends nodded. " We all know that this is not right. But girls don't take risk of running away from home. They normally ignore boyfriend and select with boy which is chosen by parents." Jatin felt so upset. But then he sensed that it was not even interested in keeping ahead this friendship. Something was wrong with Charu. He was staying alone in town due to his college education. He didn't have advice of any mature person. He didn't feel Charu was perfect. She was taunting him so much that day. But he went out of cafe. He didn't want to ask for change. She was laughing strange way. She was so happy that he was hurt. Next day she came same way to him. She was normal & kind. She was apologizing for her behaviour. He didn't understand what was her truth. He knew just one thing. He wanted her out of his life. His life was troubled by her behaviour. He needed a peaceful life which seemed far away after her entry. He decided that he would slowly break connection with her. But he was sensing that it was not easy. She wanted to be part of his life. He knew that he needed to say 'no'. He felt so sad and upset. He knew that she was expecting some big commitment from him. But it was not going to happen. He didn't like her that much. She was too demanding. He had small house with limited budget and if she started doing those strange gimmick there. He couldn't imagine how would his family react. His father would start abusing immediately. He didn't like her as wife. In fact he began to think that he was better without girlfriend than having her as one. On that point it looked good idea but now he had his doubts. He was so confused and upset. He kept hearing her phone call. He just decided put mobile on silent mode. He didn't want to hear from her again. It was irritating and upsetting. He wanted her to stay out of his life. He knew that soon he would be graduating. He didn't want to connect with her. In fact he was planning to run away immediately after exam. He would manage to get results whenever he needed. But he wanted to run away from town. At one heart he wanted Charu on other point he wanted to avoid her. She was his temptation. He started to get restless.
Charu was watching that saree which she had selected. She knew all. She could easily see her future. Her soul was telling it to her. She was going to get married with Jatin. Then they would have one kid. But after that she would divorce him. She knew that it would break his heart but she would do that. She needed to do it. She knew that her friend Priti was telling her to do that. Priti was her childhood friend. She used to stay in next society. But now she kept staying with her. Sometimes Charu wanted to her to shift back but she was not shifting. It was so irritating. In fact nowadays her house was full of guests. It was so upsetting. She didn't understand why did her parents needed so many tenants. Each room was having different people. She kept telling her parents to stop doing it. Her Mom looked towards her with sad face but she didn't say anything. One day they needed to empty those rooms. She slowly ran towards cupboard. She opened it and began to arrange clothes. She started to call Jatin again. He was not taking her call. It was too much for her. She needed to argue with him. She needed to fix date of her marriage. She began to call her Mom. Soon her Mom came. Mom " What happened?" " Why we need to keep so many tenants?" " Then who will pay money for your expenses?" She heard laughing sound of Priti. She was so angry. " At least throw out that Priti!" Mom looked confused. Mom " Who is Priti?" Charu was shocked. She pointed towards Priti. Mom came near her and said in low voice "Don't start it now!" Charu looked towards her in shocked way. Charu " What? Discussing about tenants in your mind?!" " My mind!" " We have one person and I don't want him to run away so do favour to me and don't keep talking about these tenants." Mom was saying it slowly. But Charu saw that tenant of every room was watching her. Charu was very upset. She never thought that way. She could see that they all were looking at her with suspicious expression. Charu " Mom don't insult me before people." Charu said it in loud voice. Suddenly last tenant who was keeping door closed came out & asked " What happened?!" Mom smiled and said " Nothing! We were just enjoying ourselves & while joking my daughter many times talk loudly." That tenant smiled & said "I know. Sometimes while talking with my Mom I do same thing. I miss her so much." Charu wanted tenant to go inside but she was in mood of talking. Tenant " Today I received call from Mom. She was literally crying. She never send me alone like this. But I told her don't worry. I am perfectly safe. She kept reading those rape cases in newspapers and kept feeling scared! Sometimes I felt sacred to! I mean sometimes I came late from office too. & I am living here with unknown people.." Tenant stopped as she sensed that she was talking in wrong way. She said " I don't mean you are criminal or bad people! You are nice family. Your husband is decent man. But still I feel so scared. I know you are nice people.." Charu wanted her to keep quiet. Suddenly another tenant screamed " Tell her to shut up! She is so irritating!" Charu looked towards her with shock but that tenant didn't stop. Even her Mom was nodding. She could see Mom was upset but still she was nodding. Even Charu started to get upset. She took deep breath and said " I think you should go in room. Some tenants were getting distrubed." That tenant looked around with shock. She asked " Did you keep more tenant?" Mom looked so embarrassed. Mom laughed and said " Charu liked joking." That tenant laughed too. Then she went in room and locked it. Mom " I feel you must stop it." " What Mom?" " Stop talking about tenants!" " Why Mom?" " I am telling you just do it." Charu nodded. She returned back to room. Charu was so confused. She started planning for her marriage again. Charu needed to plan a perfect wedding. She started to do all planning. She was so happy. Her heart was beating with joy. Soon she was going to get married when she suddenly heard scream from next door Uncle. She was so frustrated. She came out. She went in that room. Uncle was searching something on floor. Charu asked " What is it Uncle?" " Nothing sweetheart just missed my ballpen. It was here and then it was down..then paper..then pin.." she knew that Uncle never spoke with logic. He was so confused minded. She started searching for his pen. Then suddenly her Mom came from behind. Mom " What are you doing on floor?" " Searching for ball pen." " You have one pen? I thought you use just laptop nowadays or Android!" Mom laughed at her joke by herself. Charu ignored her and said " It was Uncle's pen!" Mom was so angry. Mom forced her to stand up. Mom " Stop this & go to your room!" " But Mom! Go to your room!" Mom screamed on her. Charu felt so upset. She could see tears in Uncle's eyes. She was so sad. " Mom I was just helping that elderly man. Can't you show some humanity?" Mom pointed towards an empty spot in room and said " Do you feel that one is human?" " Mom no one is standing there. But that Uncle is human and we need to treat him with respect." Uncle nodded sadly. Charu " Now you can see how did you manage to hurt Uncle?" Mom screamed loudly on her after closing door. " Which Uncle? We have just one that & keep this in mind." She didn't understand. They had so many tenants. Since this new one was paying extra it was possible that was reason behind Mom's attitude. Charu was so upset. She went in her room. She sat in her room. She started to call Jatin again. He was her only hope to get out of this house. She didn't want to spend her life in this overcrowded house. She had enough. She got dressed and decided to go in Jatin's flat herself. She was his girlfriend. She had right. She wanted to show it to him. He couldn't avoid her like that. She needed to teach him some lesson. She felt so sad.
Jatin was so upset. He was feeling so restless. He didn't understand what was his mistake. He liked Charu at beginning. But she was little strange. He couldn't tolerate it. He knew that he needed to adjust. He was in love with her. But she was so strange. He noticed sometimes she was showing people who were not sitting or standing to him. It was supposed to be joke to her. But it was creating problem to him. He felt so confused. Sometimes he began to feel that he was mad and she was showing true things which he couldn't able to think. Her attitude was so strange. She was overconfident in everything. She managed to win with it. She was topper of college when he just managed to get good marks. He was not as scholar as she was. He didn't want to spend his life in that inferiority. He didn't understand what was it. Sometimes he felt that it was just his male ego. He tried to ignore it for sometime. But nothing seemed to work. He didn't want her. He was scared of her. He was shivering so much due to her calls. He knew that he needed break from her. Then she stopped calling. He stopped watching movie. He was eating dinner. But he didn't eat it. He just put all in refrigerator and ran to brush teeth. He changed in nightgown and ran to sleep. His room partner was shocked when he came inside room without warning. He knew that he shared this apartment with other three boys so she was not going to come in night. But still he shivered. He just jumped in bed and closed his eyes. He was so scared. He didn't want her to come. He kept shivering with fear. He didn't understand why but he was scared of her. He kept thinking that he wanted her. But now he shivered. He kept looking around. He didn't want to stay here any more. He didn't understand what was wrong with him. But he was in love with Charu. He was so sure about it. She was so perfect. She was so much fun. One day he didn't able to get pocket money on time. He wanted to do some small job. But he was taking educational source side by side so it was not possible for him. He didn't able to bring anything for her on her birthday. He just bought one red rose. He still remembered how happy she was about it. She jumped with joy. She said that it was gem of her life. She said that she fall in love with him once again due to it. He was so shocked. He didn't able to see anything special in it. He felt that he was useless. All other friends were coming in party with big gifts. She was so important. They all admired her. She was beautiful and scholar. They all thought that she deserved best but she didn't got it since she was in love with him. She smiled happily. She took that red rose. In that entire party she danced with him. She danced with him and everyone felt that they were together. She was so nice considerate. He never thought that he would get someone like this. He was not so rich. He always felt so embarrassed when his friends managed to spend so much on their girlfriends. They bought beautiful gifts. But Charu never demanded much. Then one day his Dad got new business proposal and he started getting money. He began to spend it. He thought that it would improve his relationship with Charu. He sensed that something was wrong. She was not pleased with his costly gifts. She suddenly began to set strange challenges before him. He was so shocked. She began to talk about her tenants. He never went to her flat but he didn't feel anyone could keep so many tenants. Her house was not some big palace. She was not so rich. She kept lying. He didn't understand why. But he knew one thing that she kept lying. It was creating impact on his mind. He didn't want to see her. He started crying on his bed. He needed to just appear for exam. He tried hard to relax but nothing was working. He kept getting restless. He kept telling himself that it was matter of just few days. Then he heard knocking on door. He shivered. He knew that she was at door. He didn't woke up. Finally his mobile rang again. He took call since by this time his roommate started giving him angry look. But then he kept mobile on table. He turned towards mobile again. On that point suddenly knocking on door started to came with voice too. Charu was screaming and telling him to open door. His roommate sat in bed and asked him " Why you are hiding like this? Did you done something? Is she pregnant?" He was so shocked when he heard question of his roommate. Jatin sat and said " No..no I have done nothing like that." " I am not lecturing you on morals even if you did it then you must face it. I don't want her to disturb my sleep. If this happens again then you are out of flat." Jatin nodded and ran towards door. He was so disturbed. He didn't understand why did she kept harassing him. He opened door. She smiled and took hold of his hand. She began to talk about tenants. Then she suddenly started discussing about their marriage. He immediately denied it. " I don't feel I want to remain in this relationship." She was so angry. She slapped him without second thought. Then she saw Priti. Priti was laughing on her. She didn't sense Priti followed her. She began to scream " Why did you came here?" Jatin was holding his cheek. It was paining so much. He was never beaten like that. This was first time when someone slapped him. He stood up and said " I am sorry my mistake. I am going back." She was so shocked. She started to run after him. " I was not talking to you." He started running as fast as possible. She kept screaming " Stop.. stop." It was horrible. He didn't want to feel more pain. He did big mistake by coming out. He kept running. Then he sensed worst thing. Cops came from other side. Cops stopped him. Cop asked " What happened?" Charu managed to reach to him by them. Cop didn't ask Jatin. He asked Charu " What happened?" Charu smiled. She had two options. She knew that she could claim anything now. Priti was laughing. Charu was angry. Charu decided to lie. Charu " He was trying to.." she started crying. Jatin was so shocked. Now he knew that even Cops started to hit him. He sensed one thing that he did big mistake by falling in love with her.
After sometime Charu came to her senses and she told Cop " I don't mean him. He is my boyfriend. There was another man." Cop looked in direction she pointed. She added " He had bike!" Cop looked suspicious. Cop gave Jatin strange look. When Cop went away Charu smiled, she said " I protected you this time. But not every time. You must marry me!" Jatin nodded and ran away. Then he booked air ticket without second thought. He took flight and went in his home. He reached in morning. His parents were shocked. His father was so upset. They wanted him to go for final exam but he didn't. He had high fever. They took him to Doctor. He was shivering and crying. His parents tried to control him but nothing was working. Finally Doctor suggested psychiatrist. But his parents didn't agreed. Soon his fever reduced but he was not normal. He kept looking out of room. He was so scared. Then finally they took him to Psychiatrist. Psychiatrist talked with him. Psychiatrist " He is suffering due to Anxiety attack. It might be triggered due to his girlfriend. She must be having problem of her own." Jatin needed counseling of a year then finally he went on right track. He completed his education. But still he shivered when he saw someone little bit like Charu. While Charu went to his house for few days. Then she got bored. She found another boy. This was interested in marrying her. She saw her saree. She decided that she couldn't change her saree but she could change her boyfriend. She smiled and started dating other boy. She never thought of hurting Jatin. He was nice boy. She liked him but Priti convinced her of changing him. Charu's Mom was so happy by this. Mom was so tense that her Schizophrenic daughter might harm someone. But now Mom knew that Charu might slap but she didn't hurt more. Her imaginary tenant didn't let her do that. Mom took breath of relief and called Psychiatrist for appointment of next week. Mom knew that it was getting worst since Charu was not taking medicines. But that day when Charu got next boyfriend she agreed since she didn't want to lose him like Jatin. Mom was happy. Finally it would reduce for at least sometime.
