Sandip’s broken heart
Sandip was so excited about meeting Ritu after so many days. Sandip was attached to her since school days. It was decided in their mind that they would get married. He went out of town for sometime to study but in his heart she was always his sweetheart. Whenever he looked towards other beautiful girl he would start to feel guilty. He began to get upset. He wanted his heart just attached to her. Sandip was so happy. He came home few days ago. He began to unpack all. Then he slowly started to take gold ornament that he purchased for Ritu. She was always precious for him. He needed to give this to her & express his love for her. He began to observe that necklace carefully. It was perfect. It was just the way she imagined. He began to feel so sure about his choice. He knew that he needed to meet her again for sometimes. But she was his childhood friend so she would surely act same way. He called her. Ritu didn’t took call immediately. After sometime she took. He began to talk “ How are you?” She didn’t reply for long time. Then she asked “ Who are you?” He began to laugh. She surely did have his number in contact for such a long time. He created an excuse & continued. “ I am Sandip.” She gave embarrassing laugh. “ Ohh Sandip! You come back!” Surely she didn’t seem that much happy about it. He wanted to sense happiness but it was not there. He began to think that she was involved with some one. Still he didn’t say anything. He just added “ I wanted to meet you.” She sounded nervous but she said slowly “ Actually I am engaged so I thought why didn’t you come to restaurant to have lunch with me & my fiancée.” He was shocked. But he knew that it was not that much. He was not madly in love with her. It was long ago. They were not meeting at least for five years. He couldn’t expect her to keep that commitment. They didn’t show commitment during those years. He sensed that he needed to hide it all. Then he sensed that he forgot to answer Ritu. He said in extra sweet voice. “ Surely we will meet you but when?” Then he started to discuss about her marriage in a way as if proposing her never come in his mind. He began to ask about her fiancée. She seemed happy by this. Soon he understood all details of her fiancée. He immediately ran towards that gold necklace & managed to hide it in locker. He didn’t want anyone to see it. He started to feel that he was so stupid. He assumed that girl was in his love. He didn’t like to appear as if he was after her when she didn’t like him. He knew that it would reduce his value. People would consider him less worthy. He saw it happening with his friend. His friend was in love with girl who was interested in him at beginning but then she decided that she would marry boy selected by her parents. His friend kept running after her. She kept avoiding her. It was big drama. His friend was embarrassment for all. He didn’t want to become that way. He gave big smile & came out. His Mom was in kitchen. He hugged her with affection & said “ Ritu is getting engaged?” He saw that his Mom had tears in her eyes. He felt so sure that he did right thing. He didn’t want to bring sorrows in his parent’s life. He added “ Mom her fiancée seemed very nice man. I feel I should meet him. I can use his contacts.” He turned towards refrigerator. He slowly took out chocolate. He began to smell it. He knew that eating chocolate was not good for him. But on that point he needed something. He looked towards bottle of wine but he felt that in morning he must not start so he took out chocolate. He put in mouth. He turned towards Mom & smiled. His Mom looked shocked. Mom “ But I thought you two were planning to marry..” “Mom..Mom don’t say it now! It was childhood things not worthy of attention.” His Mom looked sad. But she nodded. Mom “ As you wish.” Then he began to discuss his new business project. Slowly he took Mom away from Ritu’s subject. He managed to do it. He slowly accepted that Ritu was no longer his girl. He began to live life normally as if nothing had happened. He was expecting invitation of lunch or dinner from Ritu but it never came. He was so confused. He had done nothing wrong then why Ritu was acting this way. When he asked Mom about invitation of Ritu’s engagement, she denied it. So Ritu was not interested in keeping connection. He decided to ignore it. One day suddenly his Auntie Anjana came to visit them. His Mom was so happy to see her sister. They both started talking. Atmosphere was wonderful until suddenly Anjana didn’t began to talk about Ritu. “ So Sandip is planning to marry with Ritu?!” Sandip sensed that Anjana didn’t know about latest development. Sandip “ Actually Ritu is marrying to someone else.” Auntie was shocked. His Mom nodded with smile too. “ Sandip is not anymore interested in her. He feel it was childhood relationships. They were like childhood games.” Auntie immediately nodded. Auntie “ Then he must start searching for girls.” Now Sandip was confused. He was not sure. “But I am going out for some business. If I can’t give time to girl she will get upset.” “ Come on. You need to start searching. You will not find suitable girl so soon..do you have anyone else in mind.” He began to think. There were many girls in college but at that time he didn’t pay attention to them. Then he suddenly remembered Nanda. Nanda was his favourite. He could keep in touch with her. He liked her. “ Well..” “ Yes..yes tell about her!” “ I know one girl. But not dated her..still..” “ Then start it now by calling her.” Sandip felt confused. Then he decided that he needed to give it one try. He called her. His Mom & Auntie were watching him. Nanda took his call immediately. Sandip smiled happily. Sandip “ Actually our examination is over. I am planning to start business but if you have time we can go to Movie.” Nanda said happily “ When?” He felt so happy. But then he sensed that he had not selected movie or theatre. He said “ I will decide movie..you can decide too.” She laughed. She sensed that he was just wanted to meet her. But then she suddenly asked “ You are not engaged anymore?” “ No..no she is getting married to someone else. It was childhood memories nothing else.” He felt so nervous. Auntie & Mom were watching him carefully. But Nanda said “ I will select movie & theatre. Is it okay with you? I want something in area I know.” “ It’s perfect!” He jumped with joy. Auntie & Mom were equally happy. Finally he managed to get one nice date. He went in his room happily.
Sandip started to get ready but then he sensed that day or place was not decided & it was easily possible that Nanda wouldn’t call him at all. He suddenly felt strange relief. It was so shocking. He liked Nanda. He was attracted towards her. He worked so hard to keep her out of his mind since he needed to remain faithful to Ritu while Ritu was planning her marriage with different boy already but now Ritu was out of picture. He needed to relax & fall in love with another girl. He liked Nanda so she was perfect for him. He smiled happily at this thought. But then he sensed that he didn’t want to meet Nanda so soon. He wanted to wait little bit. He started to get restless. He knew that he promised Nanda to meet her. He liked her. He remembered how did every time when they went to movie how did Nanda sat beside him. They both knew that he was engaged but still they liked each other’s company. Many times his friends suggested that he needed to change girl friend but he never agreed. He had given commitment to Ritu & he kept it that way. He never sensed that Ritu was not keeping it. He kept thinking positively about all. He kept writing emails to her but she never answered them that much. Actually she never answered anything including his calls. He knew that he must had sense it but he didn’t react to it. He was feeling so restless now by that thought. He smiled & decided to concentrate on memories of Nanda but then he began to feel confused again. He was scared that Nanda might call. He didn’t want that call. He needed to concentrate on work but he kept getting tense. He kept checking for call. His Mom & Auntie were so happy about everything. They were already planning his wedding with Nanda. He kept waiting for week. Finally when Nanda didn’t call he took breath of relief. He didn’t wanted to start dating then finally one day Nanda called him & told him that she didn’t want to marry now. She was planning to go abroad for education so dating would prove distraction on this point. He immediately agreed to it. He was so happy by this. He didn’t want to go on date. Then he came out & told it to Mom. His Mom looked sad. After it his Mom slowly started to introducing different girls to him. Whenever he came back in home, he always found some guests were waiting for him. He talked nicely with parents then he chatted with girls. But nothing worked. He sensed that he was not interested in giving commitment. His Mom began to get upset. One day finally his Mom came his room. “ Sandip normally your father should have handled this but now he was no longer with us so now I needed to handle this.” He sensed that he needed to answer his Mom peacefully. He smiled & told Mom “ Let’s sit down.” Mom sat on bed beside him. She sat in same way as she used to sit in his childhood. He slowly told her “ Mom I am not ready to start dating again!” His Mom nodded. He felt that she would argue but she didn’t. She kept supporting him. She said “ We will wait.” She nodded & patted on his cheek then she went away. He felt one thing that he was disappointing his Mom. He was so confused. He needed to start his life again. But he knew that he was stuck on Ritu. He didn’t want to accept it before all. He started crying slowly. He told himself that he needed to get over her. He decided that he would date next girl who would come to visit him. After two days once again a girl & her parents came to his house. This time he took full interest in her. Her name was Sheetal. Sheetal was talking nicely but then she suddenly told him slowly “ Actually I don’t want to lie to you. But I am already in love with other boy.” He felt so happy. He smiled. Suddenly Sheetal began to feel relaxed too. She asked “ So you are in love with someone else too!” “ No..no not like that. I was engaged to a girl called Ritu. She got married to someone else but I am not ready to date again.” Sheetal gave him concerned look. Sheetal “ Can I tell you one thing as friend?!” “ Yes!” “ You need counsellor.” He felt so angry. He screamed on her “ Get lost. Go away.” Sheetal nodded. But Sheetal kept one card there. He didn’t want it but he put in pocket of his coat. He didn’t want his Mom to see it. He decided to tell all truthfully. He clearly declared that Sheetal was in love with someone else. Her parents looked angry. But Sheetal said peacefully “ Yes. I want to marry boy of my choice.” Her parents looked so angry. Her father started abusing her. He literally dragged her out of house. He felt so sad. He began to regret that he told truth. He suddenly sensed that he didn’t totally wrong. She was not against him. He looked towards Mom. His Mom looked upset. Mom “ Why did you do that? You could have hidden it.” “ I was so angry.” He started to cry. He couldn’t control his tears. He wanted to prove that he was not boy who became mad in love but he couldn’t. He proved that he was boy who actually needed Doctor since he got mentally unsound. He knew that he lost everything. His Mom sat beside him & asked “ What happened?” “ I kept thinking about Ritu & that girl gave me number of Psychiatrist.” His Mom looked confused. She didn’t understand if he needed Psychiatrist. Somewhere in her heart she began to think about it. She could see his heart was broken. But his Mom knew that this was not right movement to discuss. She knew that he would need time to accept. She just patted on his shoulder & said “ Don’t worry. We will stop searching for your date for sometime. Then it will be over.” He nodded. He was glad that his Mom was planning to stop this search. He was so happy about it. He felt that he managed to solve his problem.
For sometime Sandip felt relaxed. It was perfect until he didn’t meet Swati or until he didn’t made friendship with Swati. He didn’t sense anything wrong at beginning. They were good friends & wonderful partner in every office work. He started his little business then soon he managed to merge it in big company. They gave him nice proposal. He became shareholder of big company. He became one of directors. He was not so experienced as Swati was. He took her help on every step. Swati didn’t demanded anything in return. But he started to feel concern about her. He began to make arrangements on every point for her. He tried to make everything perfect for her. He didn’t feel it was love. He was not exactly after her beauty. But he kept coming to her chair every day. He wanted to talk with her every day. He was not after her beauty like he was after Ritu & Nanda. But he kept going to her on every occasion. Sometimes she even started to tell him what he supposed to wear on some occasions. Then one day his Mom got sick. He needed to go to meeting. He was so tense. She took one day leave & stayed with his Mom. She did it all as friend. He never sensed that he was something more than friendship until his Boss didn’t mentioned. One day his Boss said “ So when you are planning to propose Swati?” He gave confused look. Boss looked angry. Boss “ I hope you are not using her!” “ Sir this is just friendship! We are not dating.” Boss looked relaxed & gave short laugh then Boss said “ Start dating!” He didn’t say anything. When he came out first time he looked towards Swati carefully. She was beautiful but still he didn’t feel that he was ready to commit. He didn’t say anything. He kept going ahead daily in normal way. But soon he began to feel guilty. He was so frustrated. He didn’t want to use her but now that he was not feeling ready to commitment he began to feel that he was using her. He decided that he would avoid her. He began to take advice from different people. It was more upsetting for her. Swati didn’t say anything just kept giving him questioning look. Soon she began to think that he might be not interested in talking with her since she was not smart enough. She began to study more. Slowly she started to give best solution on every issue. Boss started to insist that he needed to work with her. Finally he had no option. One day he decided that he needed to make things clear with her. He told her all on coffee. They were not dating but still they were going on coffee. It was actually just like dating for all. Swati heard it all & then she said “ You might dislike my advice but still for our future I feel I need to give it. Why don’t you visit Psychiatrist?” He wanted to react with anger but his anger was vanished. He knew that something was wrong with his fear of commitment. He nodded. Then he went home. He told all to his Mom. His Mom slowly gave him that card which Sheetal had given him. He felt so sad. He knew that he got so angry on her since she gave this card to her. He wanted to apologise but he knew that it would look wrong. He just took card & took appointment. He got appointment of next week. He told Swati about it. Swati insisted that she would come with him. He felt so odd. His Mom was insisted same thing. Finally he decided to take them both. He felt like small school kid between them. Every one was so tense. Finally they came inside. Sandip began to tell his problem to Psychiatrist. But he didn’t want to hide anything from Swati too. So she sat there with his Mom. They heard everything. Psychiatrist gave encouraging smile. Psychiatrist “ It was not your mistake. You showed honesty to your relationship but she didn’t. But you went wrong when you started to hide your pains. You felt sad that she cheated on you that was totally normal. In process of appearing normal you managed to create wrong impact on your psychology. You don’t let it accept that Ritu left you. In your subconscious mind you still kept honesty towards her. Crying for broken heart is not wrong thing.” He nodded. Sandip “ So what do you feel? Can I able to love Swati?” Psychiatrist started laughing. Psychiatrist “ You are already in love with her. Why else you came here? Last time you didn’t come to visit me. You come here just for her.” Swati gave nervous & shy smile. Then Psychiatrist told them both to go out. While Psychiatrist started discussion with Sandip, his Mom began to discuss about Swati’s family. Mom was sure that soon Sandip’s life would be on track. Sandip would manage to get over this trouble. It was not quick. But Swati clearly had patience. They discussed all. When Sandip came out, his Mom suggested that they should go on small picnic with Swati’s family. Sandip nodded. He felt that it was good start for him. He wanted to connect Swati slowly. He began to feel so excited about it all when he met her parents & her family. They were nice people. Soon they began to go in each other’s house daily. With help of counselling he began to feel relaxed about all. Finally one day they started dating. Soon they got engaged. Sandip decided to invite Sheetal on it. He was so happy when Sheetal came with her husband. Her husband thanked him. Sheetal’s husband “ Finally you did it for us. You told all & her parents began to face truth. Then after long arguments finally they agreed to marriage. Of course still they are not happy about it. But still they accepted it.” Sandip congratulated them & they congratulated Sandip & Swati. Then both couples took picture together. After that they managed to create strange bond of friendship. They always kept going to picnics together. Their friendship seemed like friendship of old school or college friends. All assumed it but they never told this to anyone except their kids who shared it with everyone . Since it seemed to them something out of movie & all adults laughed about it.
