Ravi’s grandparents
Ritika was so happy about route she had taken. She always moved the way others decided. She was so pleased about it. But now she began to sense that it was wrong. It happened since her son declared that he wanted to go in hostel. Her husband Mohit objected. Mohit didn’t like sending kids away but her son Ravi stood on his ground. Ravi was so determined to go in his way. He was just small kid but he wanted his independence. He was in fifth grade but he began to tell that he wanted to shift in hostel. According to Ravi that hostel was great. Ravi said like mature person “ I want wonderful future & that hostel will train me.” Mohit screamed on him “ Really you have brain to decide it?” “ I don’t have knowledge at this point so I am doing this to get it.” Mohit started laughing. Mohit “ No you are not going anywhere.” “ Then I will ask help from my grandparents.” “ Really?! And who will do it for you?” Mohit looked towards Ritika with anger. Her parents always pampered Ravi but she was sure that her parents would never make such big promises. She laughed nervously. “ Honey, Grandma or Grandpa will not give you so much money?!” Ravi looked towards her with mischievous smile & went away. Then Mohit came near her. He took hold of her hand with force. It was hurting her. She didn’t understand why did she fall in love with him. He was so perfect on that time. But after marriage his anger seemed like always ready to burst out. She didn’t understand what was her mistake. “ Did your parents made such a promises?” She gave another nervous laugh to hide her fear. Then she said “ Nonsense! They don’t have that much money.” He started laughing loudly. Then he took hold of her hand more strongly. “ Sure! It’s my nonsense thought that your parents who need to beg for money from you time to time will do such horrible commitments. But then who he is referring?! He didn’t know my parents? Did he?” Ritika was shocked at that thought. It was impossible. Ravi never met his parents. In fact she never met his parents. Once he told her that his parents didn’t approve her marriage with him. She didn’t understand why. It was sort of confusing. But she knew one thing that she never met his parents. Her parents were little upset about it. But Mohit had his share of property. Mohit explained that his parents never really cared for him. It was really strange but she believed him. Since she knew him from college but she never met his parents. She kept feeling restless about it. She didn’t ask him about it. Even today she didn’t know about his parents. She knew that Ravi couldn’t meet them. She said “ Ravi is saying this just to pretend he had source.” Mohit left her hand. She started massaging her hand. Clearly Mohit didn’t even sense that he hold it so strongly. He didn’t understand his strength. Sometimes she saw him breaking glass in his hand. His hand get hurt but he didn’t sense. She felt so scared but he laughed. He always told her that he was like that from childhood. Such small things didn’t hurt him. So he didn’t sense that they were hurting her. Normally he apologised when she told it. But on that day she was so tense that she decided to ignore. But still he immediately said “ Did I pressed your hand too much?! I am so sorry. This is happening due to that stupid child. I don’t understand from where he found his grandparents?!” From that day she began to search for answers. Ravi kept telling her regularly that his grandparents were arranging all. He was also talking on mobile few days ago to his grandparents. She was so shocked. She didn’t understand when he managed to take away her mobile to make that call. She tried call back. But a young man took it & told her that some child was irritating him with calls daily. He threatened her of Police complaint. She was so shocked. She knew that someone was using innocence of Ravi to get something. She began to suspect this person might be kidnapper. She worked hard to find whom this number belonged. At beginning she didn’t got that information but when she told all & even offered some money she got it from one person. She knew that it was illegal. She was doing wrong but she wanted to keep her son safe. She knew that someone was doing it on purpose. She knew that if she told all to Mohit. He would get angry then he would do all those things which were scary for him. He began to get restless & she didn’t want it. She was scared of his anger. Mohit was so nice normally. He cared for her. Her every day was heavenly. She suddenly began to remember pleasant side of her life. Mostly Mohit acted normally. His every action was so loving. He always put her before himself. She didn’t remember countless times when he showered her with gifts while adjusting his needs. He always put her before himself. He was so nice & considerate. He started to get upset sometimes but she knew that he had some problem. She knew that he was visiting some Doctor. She never asked what was his trouble. She felt that he was hiding it since he cared for her. She was so scared to learn about it. She spent many nights with fear. Even today she felt tense sometimes. She didn’t know what was his sickness. He never introduced his family. According to her family he was great person. Her Mom got upset sometimes when she saw marks on her hand. Her Mom discussed it with Mohit. He kept apologising. Her family didn’t like him that much but Ritika was still in love with him. Ritika couldn’t deny that fact. Ritika once again told herself to concentrate on road. She needed to visit that house from which her son was getting calls. She wanted to know truth behind it. She was so stressed. She finally reached to destination. She was shocked when she saw a simple normal family in that house. A maid opened door. She introduced her to an old lady & her husband soon their daughter-in-law joined them. They all started to tell her how did her son kept talking. Her daughter-in-law “ We tell him but he didn’t understand. He kept talking. Did he have hearing problems?” Ritika just laughed. Ritika didn’t understand what she make out of this. Ritika thanked them & started her journey back home.
Now Ritika sensed that she needed to talk with Mohit. She couldn’t avoid it. Her son Ravi was talking on mobile. She didn’t understand what she supposed to do. She waited with patience. When Mohit finally came home in night, she told him everything. Mohit looked angry. Mohit “Come on. That lady is lying. Do you feel our son Ravi is mad? I tell you what happened. They introduced that senior couple as my parents to Ravi who got carried away by their sweetness & now they were declaring our son mad before you & you keep nodding. You are his mother! How could you let someone declare him mad like that?!” She began to feel so nervous. Mohit was right. She supposed to trust Ravi but she got carried away by their statements. She didn’t understand why? But she believed them. She decided that she needed to go to Cops. “ Let’s go to Cops!” Suddenly Mohit looked more frustrated. He asked angrily. “ Have you lost your mind totally?! They are not stupid to call us every day. They must have managed to convince Ravi to call them. Now I don’t want you to interfere. Let me handle.” She was so confused. She just nodded. Then they both went in Ravi’s room. They saw he was sleeping peacefully. Then Mohit turned towards her. Mohit “ I don’t understand why didn’t you keep your mobile locked carefully? How could Ravi manage to get it & call on it?” She began to feel so guilty. She said slowly “Actually I set your name as lock code & he manage to crack it.” She started to cry. He suddenly smiled. “ It was not your mistake. You did all.” She began to feel relaxed. Mohit smiled & told her “Now let me handle this issue. I will take Ravi with me in mall today & then discuss. I will solve issue properly.” She felt so happy. She nodded. She wanted Ravi to get friendly with Mohit. Next day Mohit didn’t went to office. He stayed home for his son. She felt so happy about it. She wanted him to pay attention to Ravi. She knew that Ravi needed attention. She was trying to pay it but honestly she sensed that it was not working. Ritika wanted Mohit’s help & finally she was going to get it. She smiled happily. She needed to try her best. She was getting so upset & restless. She didn’t feel she could handle Ravi. She smiled happily. “ I am so happy that you stopped to handle Ravi’s issues.” “ I am his Dad. It is my responsibility. I feel this happened since I burdened you with all. How much can you handle? Our son is too smart just like his father. In my childhood I use to act naughty. But I am sure you never disobeyed in childhood.” She didn’t deny it since that was true. She was always nice girl. In fact her Mom felt that she was too soft. But Ritika knew that her Mom always acted too harsh in every issue. Her Mom even wanted her to divorce Mohit when her Mom noticed marks on her hand. Her Mom was overreacting! Her Mom said to her “ At this moment you don’t have child. You can leave him. After child it will be more problematic. He will never able to handle issues of child. What if he become aggressive with your child too?” She felt so upset on that day. After it she started avoiding Mom. She didn’t want to hear her comments. She didn’t want her every mark to become issue. Sometimes such things happened. Her Mom didn’t understand. Her Mom kept taunting. She knew that she did right thing. That day Ravi came. Ravi was so happy. Ravi was telling how did his grandparents were sending him to hostel. Ritika told him that his Dad was waiting for him. Ravi looked shocked. Ravi looked nervous. Mohit “ So Ravi? You are going to meet your grandparents today.” Ravi didn’t say anything. Then Ravi started laughing. Ravi “ Do you believed in my joke?!” “ Joke?!” Mohit looked confused. Ravi “ I was just joking. For fun I took Mom’s mobile & started to make calls.” Then Ravi gave guilty look. “ Sorry. I thought it was fun.” Ritika & Mohit both felt shocked. But they both laughed. They didn’t understand what they supposed to do. Then Ravi went inside room. Ritika “Those people were telling truth.” Mohit started to look nervous. She sensed that Mohit was hiding something from her. She kept looking at her. But Mohit just said “ I am going in office.” Ritika nodded. After this Ritika started to keep her mobile locked in her cupboard. It was problematic but she didn’t want to take risk. But then she soon started to sense that Ravi was talking with someone. She didn’t see anyone. It was so strange. She began to realise that Ravi was talking to his grandparents. But they were not existed. She was so scared. She knew that she needed to tell Mohit. Mohit must do something. She waited for few days. Then she finally told all to Mohit. She saw sudden change in Mohit’s face. Mohit screamed on her. Mohit “ So he was lying.” Mohit went towards Ravi’s room. She sensed his intention. She ran. He opened door. She ran towards him. Ravi was talking in room. No one was there. Mohit began to scream on her. “ He is mad. Close door & lock him. People must not see him.” She was so shocked. She didn’t understand what he was suggesting. Ravi ran towards door. But Mohit locked it. Ravi began to cry loudly. But Mohit didn’t open it. Mohit had strange look in his eyes. She knew that he had it when he took hold of her hand harshly. She didn’t like it. Mohit “ He needed to be kept locked. Mad person must not come out. If we tell anyone then they would lock him in hospital. You can never able to see him.” She wanted to see him. “ Let me go inside. I will talk.” Mohit nodded. Since Ravi was screaming too loudly, Mohit felt scared that people might hear him. Ritika went in room. Ravi hugged her. Ritika tried to calm down him. Slowly Ravi managed to calm down. He slept in her laps. She knew that Ravi had some mental trouble but she didn’t feel that he was risky. She didn’t like the way Mohit was treating him. She soon sensed that Mohit had locked her too. Mohit was locking them all in room. She sensed that Mohit was not acting normal. Her Mom was right. Mohit was horrible father. She was scared that he might hit Ravi too if Ravi tried to come out of room. She kept patting her son.
Next day Ritika started to hope that in name of school she could send Ravi out. But Mohit came with concept of home schooling. Mohit “ I called tutor at home. I explained all to tutor. Just tell Ravi to obey him.” Ritika nodded. Ritika was so tense. That tutor came. She was expecting some help from tutor. But that tutor was already convinced by Mohit. Tutor went in Ravi’s room. Ravi kept quiet. Ravi didn’t said anything. Ritika sensed that Ravi was too scared. She was watching all. She was so nervous. She didn’t understand why Mohit was not calling Doctor. Mohit was declaring Ravi mental patient to world but he was not calling psychiatrist. When she tried to ask him, he said “ What is use of calling Psychiatrist?” “ Psychiatrist will cure him.” “ No psychiatrist couldn’t. He will lock him in his hospital. You don’t understand. Just don’t worry. I will bring some medicines.” She was so shocked. He was bringing medicine without consulting to psychiatrist! She was so angry. “ Are you out of mind? You can’t start giving him some medication like that!” Then he gave her angry look. He slapped her. She felt so much hurt. She began to think that she was going to faint. He screamed “ That stupid child inherited your madness. Don’t you once told me that your one Auntie was mad.” She was so nervous. Her Auntie used to so some signs of mental disorder. She used to talk herself sometimes. But she was not totally mad. It was so frustrating. “ My Auntie had problems. But she used to go on job & she lived happy life. No one locked her in room.” She kept talking. She was still feeling pain on cheek but she was not going to give up so soon. It was question of her son. “ If you feel Ravi is okay then you need to take those medicines too.” She was so upset. She screamed “ You are mad man. My Mom was right marrying you is biggest mistake & tolerating you was most wrong decision.” He began to hit her in harsh way. She didn’t stop him. She knew what she needed to do. She slowly called Cops. She didn’t need to tell them anything. Since Mohit was screaming on top of his lung but she wanted to tell address. But sadly even it was not possible. Her mobile fell out of her hand. He sensed it. She knew that now he would kill her when he sensed what she had done. She ran to Ravi’s room. She unlocked him while he was trying to convince Cops that nothing was wrong. It was just his mad wife. She ran out of house with her son. She went outside but she sensed that she forgot to bring money. She was so scared. Mohit was calling her. She could hear his abuse. She literally started running while holding hand of Ravi. Luckily one Auto Driver noticed her. He took pity on her. He stopped. He told her to come inside. She sat in it. Soon she sensed that she was without money. She couldn’t reach home with Auto since it wasn’t possible. Her parent’s house was far away. She said “ Police station.” But then she sensed Auto Driver already standing before it. She went in it with his help. She filed Police complaint. They took her to hospital. Doctor checked her & said “She had fracture on hand. We need to do more Ex-rays too. But one thing is clear her husband is inhuman.” Cops nodded. She slowly told entire incidence. Cops were shocked. Ravi was entire time standing with one Cop. She requested for one psychiatrist to talk with her. That psychiatrist came. He started talking with Ravi. He discussed for long time. Then psychiatrist came to her. Psychiatrist “ Your son might be imaging his grandparents but it was to escape from his father. Your husband had major problem. Do you know anything about his mental history?” She turned her hand ne gatively. “ I never even met his parents.” Cop “ How could you marry without these basic inquiries?” She gave sad smile & said “ I was in love & he was very rich. My parents didn’t have that much money. I felt that money will solve all.” Cop “ This thinking damage all. Money can’t change nature of human being. You can’t use it as replacement for kindness.” Ritika tried to hide her tears. Then Cop went out to do background check on her husband. Soon Cop came back. Cop “ Your husband had major psychiatric problem. His family disowned him since he was not ready to take medical treatment but when I told them about you. They were shocked. They said he was not permitted to get married by psychiatrist. They said he took his share by arguing daily. At beginning they disowned but then finally to avoid his harassment his brother told them to give money. They wanted to see you & your son. They are coming.” Soon a nice family came. That lady looked so sad after seeing Ritika. Her brother-in-law said angrily “ Just throw that man in jail or mental asylum. I don’t care but he is burden on this Society as human.” Cops said “ Don’t worry we have arrested him. I don’t think he will get bail.” Mohit’s mother slowly touched Ritika’s cheek & asked “ He did this?” She nodded. “ I gave birth to monster!” Then she started crying. A young woman who was wife of her brother-in-law came inside. She had small child on her shoulder. She took hold of Ravi & said “ I take him with me. He must not stay in hospital. In fact we are planning to shift in other city too to avoid Mohit. You can come there. Better to stay away from him.” Ritika nodded. “ But my parents?” Ritika asked. Mohit’s Mom “ Let’s take them too.” They all agreed. “ Our house is big.” Ritika smiled. Then she said bye to Ravi. She told them about Ravi’s mental trouble too. They told her not to worry. She smiled & closed her eyes. She knew that her son was with unknown people but they seemed like their family than his father. Actually they were his family & her family too. She slowly called her parents. She told them all. They immediately agreed to shift since they already received one threatening call from Mohit before he arrested by Cops. They didn’t want to take risk. They decided to take away all from her house too. She needed to shift completely. She was tense but she was feeling better. She knew finally she was going on right track. She was no longer scared about how could she hide marks on her body since all knew what her husband did to her. She closed her eyes & went to sleep peacefully.
