Sandip’s office work
Sandip was watching TV happily. After coming home from work he ate his dinner before TV usual task. Mostly one of the kid woke up & joined him. Of course they were not permitted to stay wake until midnight hour so always Tanuja started arguing & sometimes even literally forcibly took them in their room to sleep. He didn’t mind that argument. He felt so sad. His kids wanted to spend time with him but it was not permitted. Then Tanuja went in kitchen to clean all. He knew soon Tanuja would join him on sofa. He never sat alone. But Tanuja always confirmed before it that kids were asleep. She didn’t want them to disturb them. It was Tanuja’s personal time. He was waiting. But Tanuja didn’t come. He started to get nervous. He was so scared. He suddenly began to feel something bad had happened to Tanuja. His gut feeling was telling him to go in kitchen. That TV show was interesting but still he couldn’t concentrate on story. He knew that something was wrong. He wanted to shout her name but he didn’t want to wake up kids. He waited for her. He began to get restless. He started to see her lying on kitchen floor. He decided that he needed to find her. He ran in kitchen. He looked towards floor. She was not on floor. He was so nervous. He suddenly thought that she might be somewhere else. In such condition people managed to do impossible. She might have managed to drag herself little bit. He started searching in every corner of kitchen. He began to get tense. When he suddenly felt touch on shoulder, he screamed with fear. Tanuja was standing behind him with shock. Tanuja “ What happened? Why you are searching kitchen floor?” He knew that he could tell her his stupid premonition. He gave nervous smile & said “ I thought my mistake a coin fall from my pocket.” Tanuja looked nervous. “ Really? Then we must search it. I don’t want it in hands of kids.” “ Come on they are grown up! They will not put it in mouth.” “ No! But they will start playing with it. Playing game with money is bad habit. It encourage thief towards kid. Criminals start to think parents have extra money so they are wasting it like that on kids. They might plan to kidnap our kids.” “ Okay..okay. Relax this is just one coin. You have managed to move so ahead from that one coin. Kidnapping..” “ It all start from small things. Let’s just search that coin.” Tanuja began to crawl on floor in search of coin. He slowly threw one out of pocket without noise. She soon found it & jumped with joy. He also managed to show fake happiness & they returned to hall. They sat before TV. Once again they were enjoying dinner & each other’s company. During this time they always felt as if they were once again going on romantic date. These late night dinners kept their old love alive. He always enjoyed this time. But today he was so restless. He kept feeling as if something evil was around him. He was so upset. Then he suddenly sensed something was kept touching their window. It seemed like knocking. But they were on fifth floor. Person couldn’t knock on window of fifth floor unless it was robber. He shivered. He didn’t want to express this to Tanuja. He knew that in kitchen with big drama he managed to hide his irrational fear but now it started once again. He decided to ignore it. He began to concentrate on TV. Soon dinner was over. They both went in bedroom. He went to sleep. Then he suddenly began to sense one strange fear. He decided to put blanket over his head to hide from something. He slept that way for sometime but then suddenly someone pulled it. He was so scared. He kept shivering. Then he sensed touch of Tanuja’s hand on his forehead. He sensed that she pulled down blanket. He tried his best to hide his irrational fear. He tried his best to smile. But he knew that she could see it. Tanuja “ What happened? Why are you so scared?” He didn’t know. It sounded so odd. He didn’t remember anything scary for entire day. He felt so upset. Then he suddenly remembered movie that he watched last week or before it. It must be that movie he decided. He smiled & said “ I feel I did mistake of watching that horror movie.” Tanuja started laughing. “ You still remember that movie?” He nodded. Tanuja slowly began to pat on his forehead. “ You are just like kids. Whenever they watch movie they get scared too. I pat on forehead like that & they fall asleep.” He wanted to reject that idea but he couldn’t. It was truly relaxing. Soon he fall asleep. He was so sure that he would wake up in morning. But he suddenly found himself awake in middle of night. He kept looking around. He couldn’t see things properly in dark at beginning but slowly his eyes got adjusted. He was feeling so restless. He decided to go in washroom. He started to walk towards it but he began to get restless. He began to feel that someone was behind him. He could sense that feel. He was getting so restless. He was so upset. He wanted to wake up Tanuja. He was feeling so scared. He controlled himself. But then he suddenly felt that he had it enough. He went near Tanuja & started to wake her up. Tanuja looked towards him with irritation. “ What happened?” “ I feel some robber might try to enter in our house?” She suddenly sat in bed. Her sleep was vanished. Tanuja “ Robber?! You saw him.” “ Come on if I had seen this robber do you feel he had kept me alive?” She shivered. “ Don’t say it like that.” Then they came out. But they didn’t find anyone in entire house. Tanuja smiled. Tanuja “ I think that Robber ran away since you woke up.” He was still scared & he didn’t believe it but still he nodded. Tanuja “ Let’s go back to bedroom.” He agreed since he didn’t see much options so he went in bedroom. He didn’t expected to fall asleep so soon. But he did. Next time he sensed where sun rays falling on his eyes. Tanuja smiled & said “ Good Morning hurry you are going to be late for office.” He literally ran from bed. He managed to get ready as soon as possible. Then he ran towards door. He knew that he couldn’t catch his office bus so he called Cab. He sat inside it & went to office. But whole time he was thinking about that robber. He was so scared.
Sandip started working in office. He took out his project. It was looking so perfect yesterday but today he wanted to throw it in trash & he was about to do it. When his assistant manager Prabhat entered & stopped him. Prabhat “ Now I will not let you throw it in trash. This is our hard work. This is forth project & I have already called clients for presentation. Today you are going to present it.” “ But I am not so sure & confident.” “ But I have confidence on you. Go ahead.” Sandip was not so sure but still he went ahead. Sandip got in room. He began everything with full confidence. He did it all. But he was sure whole time that client would say no. Finally he said “Okay so inform us your decision within week.” But all group of members from client’s company looked confused. Finally most senior one asked “ Why a week? I thought you are ready to start on anytime.” Prabhat immediately said “ Of course Sir.” Prabhat immediately presented documents. Clients smiled. “ Actually Sandip Sir told it as per procedure.” Clients signed it. Sandip felt so happy. He carefully took those papers & locked them in locker. He kept it’s key with himself. He was feeling so restless. He knew that he should celebrating. In fact all office started to plan celebration but he was restless. He still didn’t understand why? A fear was inside his mind. He kept thinking what if he fall sick & couldn’t finish contract in time. He didn’t read that clause carefully. He didn’t ask Prabhat about it. Since Prabhat was already began to plan everything. They were going in good hotel. Director of Company announced free dinner & every thing in five star for all on that day. They worked so hard all deserve it. Even drivers & office boys & security were invited. Many of them felt they needed to change dress. So Prabhat gave them few hours off. They all were just planning party nothing else. They wanted break from work. Sandip sensed that disturbing them on that point was wrong. Sandip was trying so hard to settle down in positive mood. But he couldn’t. He just went back in his office. He began to find name of supplier on Internet. He began to evaluate material. He started to conduct inquiries. He didn’t sense when he began to work again while forgetting relaxation. When Prabhat came in, he was already in discussions with few suppliers. Prabhat looked shocked. “ Sir I feel we are relaxing.” He pointed Prabhat to keep quiet. He created short list of suppliers suitable for project. “ I am coming for party. I just want to confirm all...what if I fall sick..” Prabhat “ Are you feeling okay?” “ Yes..yes I was feeling just little restless. So tense!” Prabhat didn’t speak anything at beginning but then after sometime he spoke. “ Do you have any trouble in home?” Sandip laughed. Then he said “ Yes..yes actually yesterday I felt that some robber climbed on our window. Actually it was so hard to believe we stay on fifth floor.” Suddenly Prabhat started taking interest in conversation. “ Did you call Police?” “ No. What did I suppose to tell them? I sense one robber was there but since I sense it that robber ran away! It will be meaningless. They will consider me mad!” “ No..no sir you need to be careful. What about your security guard?” “ What about him?” “ Is he trustworthy?” “ Of course!” “ Then tell him to keep special watch on that pipeline. Or I got better idea tell someone to park car before that pipeline.” “ Come on! Robber will climb on Car.” “ Not simple car Sir. Those car who have that sound when someone touch them.” “ What? I don’t know if anyone have it. They are little bit irritating keep making sounds again & again.” “But people keep them. They want to avoid robber.” Sandip didn’t like this idea at all. Prabhat began to think about other ideas. Then slowly staff started coming in. They all wanted to know what happened. They all enjoyed story. It seemed like some thrilling serial. Every one wanted to discuss it. They all wanted to share it. Slowly Sandip managed to get involved in it. Then Sandip went to party. Before going he put papers back in cabinet. Then he took keys & he went away with them. He went towards hotel. He started to enjoy party. He was so happy in it. But then suddenly he began to check on his keys. He put them in pocket. He kept searching but he didn’t find them. He was so scared. Prabhat was totally drunk on that point. It was useless to tell anything to him. Sandip went to washroom. He literally removed all his clothes & began to search for keys. Then he sensed that key was safe in other pocket. He kept in one pocket then he was searching in another. He took breath of relief. He started to get dress again. On that point a man came in washroom. That man started to watch him in shock. He gave apologetic smile & said “ Coffee was fallen on me? So I need to..” that man started laughing. Then that man started looking around as if searching for someone. That man asked “ So she is gone!” He asked with confusion “ Who?!” That man kept laughing & went away. Sandip didn’t understand it but then he understood. This man thought there was woman with him. Sandip felt so angry. Sandip screamed “ Hot coffee fall on me! That’s all! I am honest to my wife.” That man kept laughing loudly. Sandip wanted to hit that man. But he needed to join others soon before they sense that he was missing. He went out. He joined others. He started even dancing with them since he wanted to appear normal. Finally by midnight they all decided that it was time to go home. Sandip felt so happy. Sandip started to feel so tense. Finally they all called Cab for their homes & went their way. He kept feeling so restless. He knew that he was too much drunk. He decided to call Tanuja. He told Tanuja but it was all meaningless. He couldn’t concentrate on words. He wished that he drank in limit. But Tanuja was so wise & considerate. She was waiting for him near Society gate. She took him home with help of Security guard whole time he kept apologising for drinking. When he reached home, he just fall on bed & immediately everything went blank. He felt that he was going to sleep peacefully. Nothing could wake him in morning. He was feeling so exhausted.
Sandip woke up in middle of night again. His head was paining & he felt as if he wanted to vomit. He knew that he drank too much. He ran in washroom. He was feeling worst & it was not just too much drinking. He remembered that he forgot to put keys safe. He began to search for it. He kept searching in entire room. Then finally he found it. He felt so relaxed. He suddenly sensed that Tanuja was awake by his noise. Tanuja “ What happened?” “ Nothing much. I am feeling little sick.” Tanuja’s face turned red with anger. “ Too much drinking. What else?” He didn’t say anything. He took that key. After that time he started keep it with him. That key was always around. He started to keep it everywhere with him. He began to sense touch of key on each day. He knew that it was too much. Tanuja started to point it out. Tanuja began to get restless. One day finally Tanuja asked “ What’s wrong with you?” He said nothing. She gave him angry look & said “Remove that key!” As she tried to take it he slapped her without thought. She was so shocked. He was more shocked. He abused his wife. He was never like that. She ran away from room. He forcibly stopped her. “ Listen to me..listen to me. ..something is wrong with me.” “ Yes. You slapped me. You are horrible man.” She began to abuse him & he knew that he deserved it. He finally said “ I felt as if I am possessed by this key. I can’t remain without it. Do you feel it could be haunted?” She started laughing. She said “ Are you making his stupid excuse to justify your behaviour with me?” “ No..no I am not. I tell you all.” He began to tell how did he kept it with him. He told her that in office even during lunch he tied it to hand. He started crying slowly. He knew that entire office was looking towards him in strange way. “ They did complaint to Boss since they want me to complete contract. After it I feel I will lose job too.” She was so shocked. She sensed that he truly obsessed with key. He started to slap himself. “ Punish me. As much as you want but help me.” She was so confused. She said “ Let’s take appointment of psychiatrist.” She was excepting another outburst. But he just nodded while holding that key in his hand. Next day when he went in office, he sensed no one was interested in talking with him. They were avoiding him. Just Prabhat was only one who talked. He told Prabhat that he wanted to go early. Prabhat asked slowly “ Where?” Clearly Prabhat was truly concerned. “ I want number of good psychiatrist so visiting my family Doctor.” Prabhat smiled happily. Prabhat slowly gave card. Prabhat “ I have already found it. I will arrange appointment today. You can call your wife & you can drop kids at my house. My wife like them. They can play with my kids.” Sandip nodded. So he sensed that everyone was sensing that he was mad but no one wanted to say it on his face. He began to feel that since it finally came out. He felt better. When he came out of office for some file, he decided to tell all. He told them that today he needed to go to psychiatrist. He said “ I have sort of nervous breakdown but nothing serious.” He sensed all staff was relaxed now. They all wanted to say same thing. It seemed as if they were discussing. He felt so relaxed when they all encouraged him. He started to feel sure that he could become normal. But soon he received call. He sensed that Boss was assessing situation & he knew that Boss was judging his mental conditions. He slowly explained all. He told him that he was getting nightmares comfortable lie. Boss didn’t seem convinced. Soon his Boss told him that he was removed from contract. He felt so upset. He suddenly decided to resign only. He immediately declared it. Boss looked confused. But he stood on his ground. He decided that he could find new job. In fact he was searching for new one. He didn’t want so much pressure. He told Boss that he would send resignation. He took out his things. Then he gave his resignation to Prabhat. Prabhat clearly looked upset. Sandip went away from that office. He decided to send resignation through courier. He returned home fully nervous. He totally forgot about Psychiatrist. Tanuja already managed appointment. All was arranged. Sandip went to Psychiatrist. While he waited he searched for job. He was shocked when he got one interview call from office of his previous office client. In fact that client called & confirmed his job. While talking with that client he sensed that Prabhat was backstabbing him for long time. Sandip felt so depressed. But Sandip decided to tell about this appointment to new Boss. His Boss laughed & said “ I visited him too when my last partner cheated me. Now I am happy & successful.” Sandip felt so hopeful. Sandip went inside. Sandip told everything without hiding. Psychiatrist listened & said “ Actually this happen due to betrayal of Prabhat. You don’t understand what was happening but you keep failing. It increased your Anxiety due to which you developed Generalised Anxiety Disorder. You started to feel scared in every daily activity. You don’t sense trouble on that point. You tried to ignore it which lead to further complication. You started to get mild sort of obsessive compulsive disorder. In which you get obsessed that key. You began to feel it will remove your fear.” “ So can you cure me?” Psychiatrist smiled & said “ Of course. It is irritating but not so difficult to cure. You will be fine after treatment.” Sandip started discussing all. Slowly he began to sense relaxed. He knew that tomorrow would be first day in new office but due to psychiatrist he felt that he could handle. He never felt so relaxed. But tension was keep returning. Slowly psychiatrist started to tell him tricks to control it. He knew one thing today he might not become tension free. But one day he surely learnt it & this treatment would manage it. He turned towards Tanuja. He was so happy to see her relaxed. He knew one thing. He didn’t want to repeat his mistake. He didn’t want to hurt her again. He told it to Psychiatrist too. Psychiatrist nodded & said “ Don’t worry. You will not do it again. I will handle that obsession.” Sandip smiled happily.
