Rita's Step Mom
Rita started walking slowly on sand. She enjoyed that touch. It was so pleasant. She could sense happiness in her mind. She kept hearing those wonderful tides for hours. She kept feeling happy due to them. She was so happy to hear them. She loved that lovely sound of tides. She started calling Swapna. She turned behind & she saw that once again Swapna was missing. She didn’t understand what was wrong with her. She began to call Swapna. Rita began to call Swapna loudly. Swapna was sleeping on next bed got irritated. Swapna didn’t understand what was wrong with her. Swapna was suffering this daily. She regretted to get this sister. Swapna didn’t confess it but Rita was irritating. Rita always kept having nightmares which were full of different people. But worst thing was Rita was getting worst each day. She kept having those nightmares. Swapna used to put earphones in her ears to avoid that nuisance. But today she forgot to wear them. Swapna liked her sister or she pretended to like her step sister she didn’t know. Rita was her father’s daughter from first marriage. Rita’s Mom took divorce & no one knew why. But Rita was always precious for everyone. From birth everyone taught her one thing that she needed to adjust with her Rita Didi. Of course inside her mind Rita was never elder sister for her. She always felt frustrated by her. But she knew that if she said something surely all started considering her behaviour as hatred towards step sister. Swapna knew that she needed to keep admiring Mad Rita. She hated Rita so much. She needed to look wonderful before people so she kept tolerating her. It was so frustrating for Swapna to watch her madness daily. She began to feel scared of her dreams too. She began to sense that now Rita could start talking about her dream to her anytime. She hated it when that dream included her. It was so upsetting hearing that entire thing with smile. Her Mom kept telling her that she needed to understand Rita. But she couldn’t understand her. Rita was friendly to world. Rita was intelligent too. When people saw Rita, they saw a scholar as a person who always had intelligent brain. They admired her on every point. They never saw her other side. She managed to hide it very well from world. But Swapna knew it. Swapna saw it. Swapna knew that whenever Rita took some name during sleep next day that person suffered. Swapna began to feel Rita was doing something. Swapna was sleeping on bed without any sleep. Today Rita took her name so surely Rita would bring trouble on her. Swapna wanted to relax but she couldn’t after this thought. She was going to land in big trouble. She sensed it. She was so stressed. She didn’t understand when & how did Rita managed to create trouble. She knew that it was something Rita was doing behind their back. She didn’t exactly found way but she was sure that soon she would find. Rita had plenty of friends. In fact she knew that many boys were dying to get date from Rita. Rita was popular girl. So it was possible that some boy did it to please her. But Rita was sleeping. Swapna could see that she was in deep sleep. It was strange that she could plan everything in her sleep so well & then execute it when she woke up. It was totally unbelievable & she knew that no one would believe it. But she knew that Rita was doing it. Swapna began to plan different ideas & while planning those ideas she slowly fall asleep. While Rita woke up by noise of car. Rita shivered. Rita didn’t understand why she was feeling so cold today. Rita had some dream but she didn’t remember it. Rita knew that she kept talking in dream. She hated her this habit. Sometimes she felt that she might needed to meet Doctor about it. But she was too scared to tell this. She knew that Swapna was getting irritated due to her but she didn’t able to find idea to solve her troubles. It was all going really wrong way. Rita decided that she might talk with her Mom. Actually she was staying with her father but still she felt more comfortable while discussing things with her Mom. Her step Mom was cool lady so she was permitted to call her Mom anytime. Her step Mom didn’t mind. In fact many times she felt that her Step Mom was feeling happy that she didn’t come to her. Her Mom was so relief for her step Mom. Swapna never liked her much. Swapna was always upset by her. Rita knew that she was not normal especially after having those strange dreams. Sometimes she wished only if she had different room. She wanted to stay alone in her style. She wanted to hide her nightmares. Actually they were not always nightmares. Like this time it was pleasant one. She liked touch of those tides. It felt as if those touch of cold water started to give her dreams. She was so happy. She knew that she called Swapna since she was calling her just to join fun. She regretted that she screamed so loudly. It was pleasant call but no one liked to be called in midnight. It was so shocking to other sleeping person. She knew that now Swapna would be more angry. She just needed to get over her habit of talking in sleep. She suddenly began to think about idea of sleeping in hall. She decided that she would discuss this with her Mom in morning but now she would call anyone in hall no one was going to hear. She began to feel so restless. It was so upsetting. She went to sofa cum bed & slept on it. She didn’t understand when she fall asleep. She was so confused when her Step Mom woke her up in morning. Her Step Mom was looking towards her with shock. Step Mom “ What happened? Did you have some argument with Swapna?” She knew that if she didn’t took side of Swapna immediately then Swapna would suffer punishment immediately. Her Step Mom was too concerned about her. Sometimes she felt that it was just to reduce guilt or since she didn’t want to get taunted. But Rita knew one thing that it was not love or affection. “ No..no I came out since I want to watch view while sleeping.” Step Mom looked confused. Rita took this opportunity to run out of room. She didn’t want further questioning. She ran in washroom to get herself changed.
Swapna felt confused when she noticed her upset Mom in her morning. Swapna “ What happened?” Her Mom gave her angry look “ Did you argue with Rita?” She felt shocked. She never did it. “ No Mom! Why should I do that? She didn’t even talk with me that much!” This was totally true. Rita told her dreams sometimes but not always. After she pointed and told Rita that she didn’t believe Rita’s dreams. Rita didn’t told them for at least week. Then Mom looked confused. Mom “ Then why did she slept in hall?” Swapna was happy that Rita did it without her suggestions. Swapna gave nervous smile to her Mom. “ Actually she was having continuously nightmares..but I don’t say anything to her at all. I just kept quiet even when she was calling my name in night yesterday.” “ Your name?! My God! She began to sleep talk so much?!” Swapna nodded. She was glad that finally her Mom saw something was wrong with Rita. So she decided that she needed to tell her Mom some facts. Swapna “ It is odd but I tolerated. Maybe yesterday she got too..” she was about to say something more when Rita entered. Rita gave nervous look. Rita “ Did I upset your sleep yesterday?!” Swapna lied “ No..no not at all.” Rita looked around room nervously. She didn’t even understand what she supposed to say. Rita was always nervous around her step Mom & Swapna. She couldn’t relate to them. She just ran to cupboard. She wanted to find her clothes. She selected nice clothes & went for bathe. Rita’s Step Mom was so nervous. She didn’t understand what she supposed to do. She just turned to Swapna & told her “ Don’t tell anything to her about her dream.” Swapna started laughing. “ Mom I don’t know anything about her dream! She dreamt it not me. I just heard my name that’s all.” Rita was inside. She didn’t heard a word. But she knew that she needed to shift in other room. She needed her own room. But it seemed so odd to demand it. She didn’t want anyone to blame Swapna. She knew that her Step Mom always started to scream on her own daughter Swapna when something happened with her. She knew that soon Swapna might start holding grudge on her. She didn’t want it to happen. She was so upset by all. She decided that she would tell Step Mom that she was having nightmares in that room. She came out. She sensed that suddenly both Swapna & Step Mom became silent. She smiled & said “ If you don’t mind can I sleep in hall? This room is giving me nightmares?!” Step Mom looked so nervous. “ What happened? You don’t like colour of painting?.. you dislike curtains!” Swapna couldn’t stop herself from laughing. Her Mom gave her angry look. She wanted to appear perfect Mom before her step daughter Rita. Rita gave nervous look & said “ No..no it’s about view of room.” Swapna looked out of window. There was a tree with branches. They all looked out. Suddenly they began to imagine things on branches & they all agreed. Step Mom “ Maybe we need to create two room out of this & shut down this window!” Swapna nodded. Swapna wanted separate room too. Soon they called carpenters & managed to make two rooms out of one. Swapna was happy that finally she was sleeping alone. Rita was not so comfortable in that small room. She started to feel as if those walls were coming closer to her. She didn’t like air in that room too. She began to get breathless by it. She was so stressed. She called her Mom. She told all. “ Mom I did big mistake by suggesting this. I can’t stay in this room. Can I stay with you for few days?” Rita’s Mom sounded confused but then she agreed. Rita took breath of relief. She was going back after so many days. She wanted to stay with her room. But she was never permitted. It was so frustrating for her. She began to packing. She was so happy but when her Dad returned home from work, he called her Step Mom. He screamed on Step Mom “ Why did Rita wanted to go back to her Mom? What did you done?” Step Mom looked so nervous. Step Mom said in lowly voice “ Nothing!” “ You need to take proper care of my daughter but you can’t able to do it. You are such selfish lady! You always do everything just for your daughter.” There was clearly tears in Step Mom’s eyes while Swapna was so angry. Rita came out running. Rita “ Dad I just want to spend sometime with my Mom! That’s all!” Her Dad gave angry look to Step Mom & said “ This is happening because you can’t able to become her Mom! You always remain Step Mom! Cruel & evil..” Swapna was so angry. She wanted to punish Rita. For her Rita did it. Rita tried to convince her Dad but it was useless. Her Dad was always like that. Rita knew that was reason behind her Mom’s Divorce. Rita knew that now she would land in big trouble. She began to regret her decision of calling Mom. Rita tried to talk but her Dad didn’t listen. Her Dad began to throw away things. She was so upset by this. Rita wanted him to stop but it didn’t work. It was horrible drama. Her Dad managed to destroy peace of entire house since she wanted to visit her Mom for few days. Rita learnt one lesson that she must not demand it. Her Step Mom was also giving angry look to her. It was so frustrating. Rita went to her room & unpacked all. She sat on bed & started crying slowly. That room looked like jail to her. She wanted to go out of it but it was not possible. She started to cry slowly but soon she sensed someone was coming in room. It was Swapna. Rita immediately started to apologise. Swapna gave her strange look & said “ Maybe we just need to kill our Dad! Then you can go to your Mom & I can sleep peacefully in nights.” Then Swapna started laughing in strange way. Rita shivered. Rita didn’t like the way Swapna said it. Rita knew that Swapna might take revenge on her too. Rita started to look around. Walls were really coming too close or she was getting too fat. She didn’t understand but she sensed one thing that something was wrong with this room. She began to watch room more carefully.
Swapna was so frustrated by this mad step sister Rita. Sometimes she just wished only if she could kill her Dad & plant murder on her. But she knew that it was impossible. But Swapna enjoyed when Rita began to feel scared. It was wonderful feeling to her mind when Rita started to shiver with fear. Rita was such strange girl. She didn’t understand what was wrong with her. Sometimes Swapna felt that Rita was mad. It could be coming from their Dad. Dad was clearly mad person. Their Dad kept breaking things without cause. At beginning Swapna didn’t understand cause of divorce but now she understood it. It happened due to anger. Swapna sensed that Rita’s Mom wanted to keep Rita with her but Dad didn’t let it happen. Swapna never understood why did Dad wanted to keep Rita with them. But any way she needed to do whatever he told. Swapna returned to her room. Room was small but it was perfect for her. She was no longer needed connected to Rita. Swapna always hated Rita. How hard her Mom might try to convince her but still she disliked Rita. Dad came screaming on her Mom for Rita. Rita always kept trying to go to her Mom. Swapna didn’t understand why did Dad needed Rita so much. But Dad was obsessed with Rita. He kept insisting that Rita must stay with them. Swapna went in her room. She was sleeping peacefully until she didn’t heard strange noises in next room. It seemed as if someone was going to die. That person was trying to take last breathes. She felt so scared. She didn’t want to go out. Swapna kept her door locked. She closed her eyes tightly. It was so upsetting. Then she began to sense that next room door was opened. She immediately opened her door too. Rita was clearly breathless. Rita ran towards window of hall. She saw that Rita opened it. Then slowly Rita’s breath got normal. Swapna sensed one thing that Rita was having more problems. Swapna knew that Rita was sick but now she felt that it was increased. Swapna needed to tell Mom. She didn’t want Rita to die otherwise Dad would kill her Mom for it. This Rita was big burden on them. She felt so upset due to her. Rita slowly got normal. Then Rita smiled & came back inside.
. But then Rita decided to just sit outside in hall. Swapna was so confused. Swapna finally went out & asked “ What happened?” Rita started crying. Rita “ I wanted to just meet my Mom! Was it some crime? Why he needed to scream so much on your Mom for it?” Swapna didn’t say anything. Swapna knew that Rita was right. Swapna wanted break from Rita for few days too. Their life was getting so stressed in pretending. Swapna “ You are so right! We need a break from this! You need your Mom & I need mine. What’s wrong if you spend few days there?!” Rita gave frustrated look. Rita “ He don’t want me to go there since my Mom left him & he planned to take revenge this way.” Rita didn’t say anything. Then Rita went back in her room. Swapna kept observing her. Suddenly Swapna sensed that someone was behind. She turned back. Her Dad was standing there. Dad was looking towards her with anger. She began to shiver with fear. She didn’t say anything. Dad asked “ What are you doing here?” She sensed that Dad didn’t notice Rita. She stammered “ I…I ..I” “ Stop it. You are as stupid as your Mom! You don’t have any future.” She didn’t want to cry but she felt so hurt. Swapna didn’t say anything just ran inside her room. Swapna didn’t understand why did her Mom married to her Dad. Then she remembered. It happened for money. Her Mom didn’t have any so she needed someone who would feed her after death of her parents. Her Mom was so sad when her Dad started abusing her. She remembered her Mom’s crying as kid but now her Mom didn’t care. Her Mom learnt to tolerate. But she didn’t want to do that. She suddenly began to think about hostel. But then she felt what if some bullies appeared there too. She couldn’t run away from home like this. She looked towards her room. She sometimes wished that Rita could escape. Then she suddenly got one idea. She called Rita’s Mom on her mobile. She told her Mom all about Rita’s troubles. Swapna didn’t mention her name. But she knew that Rita’s Mom could able to guess it or had her number already. Then she disconnected call. Next morning her Dad called them both out. Dad smiled & said “ I misunderstood entire thing. So sorry! Rita’s Mom was not inviting Rita. She was inviting you both.” Dad laughed happily. “ She said I done great job of taking care of you so she feel that she must do at least something. She is planning to find colleges for you. I agreed. After all your this Mom need break & I want my ex wife to know how hard it is to take care of child.” They all nodded. Then without any word both girls packed & went away to Rita’s Mom. Swapna’s Mom didn’t say a word. But she was happy. Rita’s Step Mom kissed on her cheek & said “ Take care of my daughter.” Then they both went away. Swapna was scared at beginning but soon she sensed that Her Step Mom was nice too. Swapna sensed that her Dad’s ex wife was nice woman. Soon Rita went to Psychiatrist for Anxiety disorder. Swapna didn’t understand details but Rita stopped having nightmares after some time. That house was small but they were happy. New college was nice too. They both settled there but after sometime Dad started to call them back again. Rita denied since she was already 18 years old. Swapna went back but this time she was ready. She learnt to fight back. She knew that now she was strong too. Dad tried to bully her but she answered suitably. Her life wasn’t easy but not too hard too. But she sensed one thing that she was lucky one since she knew that Rita still had episode of Anxiety like breathlessness etc. but she never had it. She valued her life & she loved it her best while ignoring her Dad.
