Adventure story 234. Knocking on door

                                                            Knocking on door
Ramesh started arranging his bags. He had came back home after so many days. He was studying so hard in hostel. He wanted every one to be proud of him. He examination went perfect. Now he was waiting for results. He was so upset by all this. He wanted them to be best. He sensed one thing that those results were having so much impact on mind. He needed to understand those effect on every step in life. He had to understand results would change life. He needed to find some wonderful job. But he was so tense. He knew that he didn't know any thing regarding finding job or working under some one. He just wanted every thing to be best. He started searching for paper. He decided that it would be better if he started searching for job now. After all he had to understand job market to get one. Then his Mom appeared " Ramesh I brought glass of milk for you." "Mom You know I hate it." "Come on. It is for your health." "Mom I am grown up now. I don't need milk every day. I used to eat bread butter and have tea in hotel. Can't I do same thing here?" Mom smiled. " Of course. You are grown up now. So today drink this milk from tomorrow. I will make same breakfast which you use to have in hostel." Ramesh smiled. He looked at his Mom. He sensed one thing as soon as he entered in house. Some thing was strange. Every one was looking tense except his sister Ritu. " Mom something is wrong." "No..NO.. Every thing is fine. It is just that I was thinking about your results and job. I just want some thing good for you." "I know Mom. Those results are scaring me too. I mean I did best but no one know what will happen in results. I just wished. Every thing will turn in right way." "Now don't worry. Every thing will just turned out to be alright. So yesterday you sleep well." Ramesh was so confused. He slept well. Ramesh " Yes Mom." He saw that his Mom was happy. " Actually I was scared that you will have disturbed sleep since you have came from hostel so bed is changed." "Mom I use to get scared when I used to sleep in hostel. My own house don't manage to scare me. Why did you feel like that? I was perfect." His Mom nodded and went away. Ramesh was so confused. He never had much trouble in sleeping in night. He had one habit. He used to listen to music when he went to sleep. It was so perfect that he didn't understand when he went to sleep. But his Mom's questions confused him. He just didn't understand. He looked around. Every thing was perfect. He didn't seem had any nightmare. In childhood he sometimes used to have nightmare then he used to scream and thrash things around room. But today room was perfect and he hadn't done that for long time. He was so confused. Any way he started reading paper again. When Ritu came inside that room, he was busy with paper. He had to share his room with Ritu since they didn't had spare bedroom. One room for his parents and one room for grand parents. Then just one room remained they had to share it. But now he needed to have another room. His parents were planning to make those changes in their house so their house was full of noise. Ritu " Dada I just hate that noise on every point." Ramesh " I know it is loud. In some days it will stop." Ritu " How can you be so sure?" Now this question confused Ramesh. That construction would stop after some days. It was sure. Ramesh " Of course it will stop." Ritu " I just hope so Mom and Dad will do that." He nodded. He felt it so strange that Ritu was tense regarding those noise. Any way he decided to ignore it and concentrate on job searching.

   Ramesh went in hall. He clearly sensed that atmosphere in his house was tense. He just didn't understand what was wrong. No one was telling him. He just kept staying with them but every day he found them so scared. Then suddenly one day he woke up at night due to dry throat heat was so much that he just could not bear it. He woke up. He saw Ritu was awake and shivering in corner. He looked at her. He suddenly sat when that headphone fell from his ear. He heard loud sound of banging on door. He was so shocked. Some one was banging it with such a force that he felt it would broke. He decided to open that door when Ritu stopped him. Ritu " Dada there is mad man outside. Don't open door." "Mad man? Which mad man?" " Dada you remember our owner Hiralal." "Yes. But he was not mad man." "I know. But he had died. He left it all to his grandson. He was mad. You never able to see him. You can't just guess." Ramesh was so confused. " Then let me open door." "But he might hit you." "Come on. Let me. I will take my bat with me." "But then you might kill him." "What is your problem Ritu? I will handle it. Let me do what I want." "Sorry Dada." Then Ramesh went in corner. He started searching for bat. He was so scared in heart. He just couldn't able to locate it. By then that knocking was stopped. He knew that he had to open door. But Ritu was already holding his hand. He felt scared. He decided that he would check on next day. Ramesh felt that he would became brave on next day. But somewhere in his heart he just didn't want to see that mad man in night. He decided to see him in morning. Since in morning day light things just didn't look as scary as they looked in night. He just sensed one thing. That he didn't want to face that fellow in night. He went to sleep on his bed. He once again started listening to music. But it was no longer consoling to  him. He no longer felt attached to it. He just felt so scared. On every moment he felt as if some one would knock on door again. He just kept waiting for that voice. Instead of sleeping he just kept waking up. He looked around. At beginning Ritu was awake then slowly she went to sleep. It was as if she got used to it. She was scared only on that time when that voice was made but as soon as that voice stopped her fears just vanished. She was so happy. She began to sense that all fear was gone. But he was still scared. It was strange that he couldn't able to get over that fear. He felt as if that voice would return. He never sensed when he went to sleep. He was so upset as soon as he woke up. He went outside in hall. Ramesh spoke with anger " Who was that stupid man who knock on our door at night?" Ramesh's Dad " You don't know any thing about this. No need to make such big issue out of that small thing." "Small thing Dad? I just couldn't able to sleep due to him. Dad that man is hurting us." "Not man. He is just boy." "Boy?!!" "Yes. He is boy of 12 years." " 12 year boy? Dad it is impossible. A 12 year small boy can't knock like that." "You don't know any thing about him. He is strange. That way they are keeping him here. He stays upstairs and his parents promised us that they will give us ownership if we don't complaint." " Never make such deal. If that boy kept banging on door like that we hardly manage to sleep. This house is useless." " What great thought? So you want us to give away such nice big house since some one knock at night? You never understand value of money. You need to earn it." "But Dad if we don't able to sleep then every thing will become useless." " I don't need your logic. First earn some money then take your own home then you can do as you wish." Ramesh wanted to argue but somewhere in his heart he sensed that it was useless. He just went inside. He started crying. He came home with such wonderful home. But his home looked like cage to him, He was so scared of nights. He never even felt so scared in hostel on first day. His room mates were nice people so they never scared him. He was so happy but still he always missed his house but how it seemed as if his house turned into cage.
    Ramesh was tolerating each day that sound. He just kept looking at top floor with one thought that only if he could go there and complaint. He started to look at it that flat on every moment. He started observing it. He began to see that flat with full attention. He started feel just one thing that he wanted to stop that knocking. On other side he began to hear that knocking whenever he fall on bed. He didn't feel one thing that he was too scared of sleeping. One day he finally decided to go and talk with that boy. He felt one thing from heart. He needed to stop so he might talk to that small boy. He thought that he could have effect in life. He started to plan that he would convince him so he decided to go there. He brought one box of chocolates. He wanted to make friendship with that boy. He became ready with sweet smile when he rang doorbell. He waited for long time. Now he just wanted to stop it. He knew that if he made friendship and lovingly manage it. He started to understand every thing. He needed to act with affection to solve this problem. One lady opened door. She was loving so nice. "Hello, who are you?" " I am Ramesh. You must be Trupti Auntie." He had confirmed name already. Trupti smiled " Of course. You are Ramesh. Ohh you came from hostel." "Yes. I brought this box of chocolate for your son. Where is he?" " You want to meet Pintu. He is gone to school now. Any way don't give him those chocolates. You know his problem very well. I just never want to take any risk with him." Ramesh was so confused. Doctor said no to chocolate because he is knocking door at night. This was too much. He just didn't understand that how did this solve that problem. " I like to play and talk with Pintu. Is it okay?" "Sure. I will call you when he will come." Ramesh smiled and he went back with chocolate. He decided to gift them to Ritu. But he just kept waiting Trupti didn't invite him. But then he saw one advertisement. He decided to call. They told him that he could come for interview. It was one job which was offered him just as trainee. But he wanted it so he went away. He decided that if Trupti was not interested in sending Pintu, then he could ignore him. He started once more using headphones. Soon he became so busy with his own life that he just forgot about every thing. Those knocking was upsetting but he no longer cared for them. He started moving ahead. First he got results then he started to search for job. He got them. But then one day one sad thing happened, his grandfather died. He was old. But his grandmother was still alive so it was worst for her. Then slowly one by one people started coming. Ramesh was busy but still he was waiting for Trupti. He knew that this harassed his grand father also. His father didn't care about any thing except money. He started waiting. But Trupti just didn't appear. He felt that it was so strange. Then when he was taking body, he saw that Trupti was standing in window with one little boy. He looked at that boy. He seemed so nice and innocent. Once again Ramesh thought that he must talk to him. After all he needed to stop all this issue. But he knew that he could do that now. He decided to wait. But once again his life got more busy. After his grandfather in few months his grandmother died. She had just lost her will power. Then Their Dad gave him one separate room. Ramesh was glad that now he could open door and close this matter because Ritu was no longer in his room so there would be no obstacle. He decided that he would make plan and did it. He just wanted to stop it. He couldn't just kept sleeping with headphones.
    Finally that day came when Ramesh was alone in room. That knocking started. He decided that it was enough. He went to door with his bat. Then he thought that it was all wrong. He needed to console that boy. He didn't want to scare him. He went back and started searching for some thing. He hardly had any thing which suit such little kid. He had that box of chocolate one time. But it was long gone. Ritu ate it all. She was so happy. That she got gift without reason. He started searching finally he found one nice ball of his childhood. He went in hostel before he had time to play with it. He just kept that ball in cupboard. He took it out and went to open door. He started looking out. He was shocked when he saw Trupti. Trupti looked confused. Ramesh " What are you doing?" Trupti suddenly started laughing strange way. But Ramesh sensed it all. She was pretending. He screamed " Stop pretending. You are doing this all on purpose. Just tell it or I just call Police." After hearing Ramesh's voice every one came out of room. Ramesh's Dad "What happened?" "Dad Trupti Auntie was knocking on door every day not her son." " What? But why?" Trupti looked nervous. Ramesh'a Dad " Why are you doing all this to us?" " Because I want to throw you out of this house without paying money. That rent you pay is just nominal." "But you said that you can give us ownership." "I know but I said it because father-in-law put that in his will. He even kept this home on my son's name. He just hated me. He wanted to take revenge on me because I managed to marry his son. What was my mistake? He said that my character was wrong. But what about his son's character. It was not great either. He wanted him to marry some poor simple girl of village. But I objected it. Do you feel that I did wrong? After all his son was having so many affairs. I tolerated it all for such long time. Finally I wanted to him to marry me. I just wanted that so I managed to click his video and managed to force him in marrying me. But my father-in-law always kept his grudge. I felt that it would be over when I would give birth to his grand child. But it never stopped. He just kept hating me. He was so friendly with your family that he decided to give you that flat. Can you believe it? He gave that flat to you. He didn't asked for even that money. But I managed lawyer and decided to take it from you." Ramesh's Dad " But you have so much property. Why did you spend so much time on us?" "Because my husband was not ready to cheat you. He never said no to me when it came to making money. He is still having so many affairs. On every night he could decide if he wanted to come home or not. Now I want to hurt them both." She started laughing. This time she was really looking mad. " My son was never here. That Pintu was not my son. I kept him with me. My son didn't have such name. We call him Yogendra. Haven't you feel that why did my son dress in such a shabby way? I was forced to keep him with me because of you." She pointed at Ramesh. " You started asking about my son. But now problem is solved. I want you to go out of my house," Ramesh " You can't do that." Trupti turned to Ramesh. She asked him in loving way " Do you want to try me? I can do any thing to harass you." But Suddenly Ramesh's Dad came out. " We will tomorrow. " Ramesh's Mom also came in support " Yes..Yes.. But please let us stay here for one night." Trupti looked around and gave victory smile to Ramesh. " I have kind heart. I will give you a month. But after a month I don't want you." Every one nodded. Then she went away.
    Ramesh was so shocked. Ramesh " Dad you are going to go out of this house." Ramesh's Dad " No we are not. I told you not to open door. You are so lucky that today she was acting in nice way." " Nice way. She was throwing us out of house." " No she was doing nothing like that. By tomorrow she would be forget all about this. She just kept telling strange stories every night. We are not suppose to open door or listen to her." "What?" " She is schizophrenic patient. She came every night with different story. Her husband had left her long time ago. Her son is staying with her. He shifted with her when he started showing same symptoms. They had one doctor and nurse with them for 24 hours. They both were not permitted to go out. But those nurses needed sleep so at every night she just managed to come out. She did different type of drama. We suppose to perform with her." Ramesh " But Dad don't you feel that it is risky." "Don't worry. Doctors and nurses are watching her. We need to take risk for such big house. It is not easy to get such big nice house in this area. Is it? " "But still Dad I feel so scared. What if she one day burned whole house?" Ramesh's Mom " And what if there was earthquake and we all died in it. Ramesh's Dad started laughing on her joke. " Ramesh stopped getting nervous. They have told her from beginning that she is mad and we need to handle it. She was telling every thing wrong. She was staying in her grandfather's house. She was loved and cared. She never did any sort of affairs. It was all her imagination. Her father-in-law never hated her. But due to her madness her husband went away and she just kept blaming her father-in-law. She never accepted truth that her madness was doing all this. Then when it came in her son, her husband was so angry. He just came and told them to take care of him." Ritu " I feel so sorry for that little boy. He was very nice when he used to play. But now his nurse didn't permit him to play that much. He was seeing that little girl again." "Which girl?" "I don't know but when he use to play with me, he told me that there was a girl who tell him to do wrong things. But he never did them. He felt that this girl was some demon. He wanted to kill her so he kept throwing salt. It was worst. He threw it on people who were walking in garden. After that he never came out." Ramesh " My god. That this is scary. " Ramesh's Dad " I know but those doctor and nurses take proper care of her." "Then how did she come out every night?" Ramesh's Dad looked confused. Ramesh " Have you told them?" Once again every one kept quiet. Then Ramesh remembered that when he went in home, Trupti was alone and she opened door by herself. He was so confused. Ramesh " There is not any nurse in her house. We must contact her relatives." Ramesh's Dad " Actually I just don't.." "Give me that number." Ramesh took that number and called. An old man took phone, When Ramesh told that person every thing. He just said one thing. " I can't afford every thing so I just kept one nurse when she took day off, my daughter stay alone. If you feel scared then kept more nurse or doctor with your own money." Then that old man just disconnected phone. Ramesh was so shocked. He wanted to stay away from those people but somewhere in his heart he knew that he had to stay. But then Ritu came near him. Ritu "Dada trust me that woman is nice. I know them. We must not treat them in such a bad way. They will not hurt us." Ramesh didn't felt that way but strange thing was that. After that incidence Trupti never came down and knocking stopped. One day finally Trupti killed herself and then they took her son away. That house was locked permanently. But when Ramesh looked at that flat, it always scared him. He felt as if Trupti's ghost was still inside and haunting him. He just never able to forget those knocking and Trupti's dead body.
