Rose's Mirror
Rose was so confused. She had her closet full of clothes. Money was never issue for her since her Mom used to work for a lady who always gave her old clothes. Rose never minded using them. Those clothes were perfect for her. She kept admiring every design of it. Her Mom Shama was maid. But Shama never let anyone call her maid. Shama always told people that she was assistant. Actually Shama was working for dress designer so all thought that Shama knew dress designing too. Shama pretended that she was not cleaning pots but stitching dresses. No one knew that she was not actually stitching dresses. Rose felt so upset when someone guess truth. She wanted to pretend her Mom was dress designer. Rose wanted that respect which other kids with educated parents get. So she started to choose a dress. She dressed in such way that no one could call her daughter of maid. It was disrespectful in her eyes. She arranged all in perfect way. She began to get dressed in style. She got dressed. Then she came out. Her Mom managed to get one small second hand car for her. She always used it in her college. While all other girls came by Cab or Auto she came with her car. It was so prestigious in eyes of all. They all felt that she was daughter of rich family. She was so happy when they treated her like rich girl. She was prestigious girl in eyes of all students of college. Rose went in college with same confidence that day when she noticed that one girl. She immediately noticed that beautiful girl. Soon she recognised her. That girl was daughter of Mom’s Boss. Rose remembered her daughter very well. Rose began to get nervous. She didn’t know if this girl could remember her. Rose was so unsure & uncertain about all. She wanted to feel confident but now she was nervous. She was about to dump her car on other car when driver of other car screamed & she came to her senses. She started to get nervous. She was feeling so restless. She needed to feel positive about all. She wanted to feel hopeful. She kept getting nervous. She knew that all was going to come out now. She told herself again & again that she wanted to feel confident. Rose came towards that girl. That girl began to smile. Rose sensed that she might have recognised her. Then that girl didn’t “ Hi “ She shivered with fear. She didn’t want to that girl to recognise her. But then Rose sensed that one boy was coming from behind & she was saying “ Hi” to him. It was getting so tense. Rose sensed that this girl was not watching. Rose smiled & Rose literally dumped in a boy. She gave nervous look. That boy was a scholar boy of college. Rose liked him. But she was not thinking about marriage on that point. She knew that she lied about her financial conditions to all. She began to get tense. She could smell perfume of Tushar. That smell was enchanting & pleasant. She knew that she didn’t like Tushar. She knew that he was not suitable for her. She was feeling so upset. Tushar was smiling towards her. She didn’t understand her emotions. She didn’t dislike him. She wanted his company as friend but she knew that when he knew about her family he would leave her. He wouldn’t love her. He didn’t know anything about her family. He was just obsessed towards her look & status which she created. She immediately said “ Sorry. I was walking too fast.” Tushar smiled & said “ It’s okay.” Tushar was clearly happy that she dumped in him. He wanted to chat with her. It was going to be problematic for her. She liked him but she didn’t want to give any commitment. She wanted to just keep friendship. But she knew that he couldn’t demand commitment they were too young. She smiled towards him & asked “ How are you?” He gave shy smile & said “ I am perfect. Actually I want to ask you. Do you know when they will schedule our science lecture.” They were in that class together. She said “ Of course. Today. Actually I am going to it.” He nodded & said “ Let’s go.” Without second thought she went with him. She didn’t even sense that they were going together. He was on top of the world. On same point Rajat was watching them. Rajat was great in sports. He liked Rose too. She was so nice. He wanted to date her. He wanted a girl who had her car. It seemed like sure bank balance to him. He didn’t like the way Tushar was always around her. Tushar was intelligent. He always get good marks. But this time he knew that Tushar would get them. Tushar was just running around Rose. Tushar seemed to forget lots of lectures in this process. Rajat liked her car & her dresses more than her nature or looks. He knew that girl was not ladder but he needed someone who could take her ahead. He kept feeling upset. When Rose saw Rajat, she smiled. Rajat was normal boy so according to Rose he wouldn’t demand that much money from her. She didn’t want rich around. It was hard to pretend rich to Tushar than Rajat. If she took any second hand purse with imported brand name & he would be impressed. Rose wanted his company. She went towards him. Tushar felt disappointed but he understood that it was her choice so he went away. Rose went to Rajat. They both kept lying to each other about their financial conditions. They were enjoying it. They didn’t sense that this lying wouldn’t help them. They needed to feel happy so they kept lying. They were enjoying their dreams. Rose was imagining that she would marry him one day & he would earn for her while Rajat was imagining Rose was going to make him rich. They were living their life in fantasy. Shama managed to pretend that she was rich & Rose was following her every foot step. Rose was telling world that she was rich. It was totally wrong. Rose wanted to feel happy in her mind. She knew that living in her imaginary world she was feeling happy. She decided to keep pretending & it was working a lot for her. She was feeling happy in her imagination. She was rich & happy in her imaginary world. She kept thinking positively about her life. She knew that she would marry Rajat one day & they would be happy. She smiled happily while entering in classroom with him.
Shama noticed that once again Rose managed to spend more. Shama always kept a budget & from childhood Rose always managed to adjust. But now for few months she sensed that something was wrong with Rose. She kept pretending that she was rich since she wanted happy like for her daughter. She knew that people expect maid’s daughter to become maid only. But she didn’t want Rose to become maid. She wanted Rose to have bright & wonderful future. She needed nice financial background for it. But she couldn’t create it. She worked so hard but still her income was limited. She had education but she couldn’t find proper job. She tried few jobs but soon she discovered that she was getting better salary as maid than in those jobs. Her employer was nice too. Shama always managed to get money on time. Even Shama always managed to get beautiful dresses for Rose too. She knew that Rose needed designer dresses to prove herself rich. Then other need was big house. Shama had one rented room in a Bungalow. She didn’t tell people it was rented so people assumed ownership. She knew that owner was settled in abroad & not planning to come back so soon. She just supposed to take care of house. But sometimes she felt so scared. Her world would shatter in seconds if that owner decided to sell property. One day that owner would surely did it. She just wanted Rose to be settled before it. It was second last year of Rose’s degree college. After completing education Rose might need to search for job. Shama didn’t have much hopes. But Shama felt that Rose might manage to start some business with help of her rich friends. Rose needed to stay in that circle. But then Shama noticed that Rose preferred Rajat over Tushar so clearly she was not planning to go after rich boy. Shama felt that it was Rose’s freedom. But she was not sure that it would solve troubles of Rose’s life. She began to get stressed. She needed to get some money. She wanted to find some items which would make Rose happy. She did understand what she was doing. She felt as if she was confusing her entire life. She wanted to move in right way but it seemed as if she turned all in wrong. Rose supposed to get in circle of rich but instead she was getting in circle of poor. Shama wanted her to choose someone like Tushar. Shama wanted to discuss this with Rose. She decided to give her freedom but then she sensed that she invested too much. Her back was still paining. Today she needed to use ladder & clean her roof. It took hours to do it. She didn’t say no since her Boss was giving her so many things free. Those designer clothes & items which Rose used didn’t come free. She needed to work hard. Even today in her house she was stitching few items. Her Boss taught her to stitch & she did some work too. She knew that by this she would soon pay for Rose’s second hand car. She worked so hard. Her Boss was nice lady but they needed to work hard to earn. She noticed how much work her Boss did. Her Boss worked for day & night. But Shama knew her daughter was sweet & simple. She never saw her daughter with any boy. Her daughter was more interested in studying. Shama didn’t feel that was right for Rose. Rose needed rich husband & she needed to search for him. Finally in evening Rose came. Rose smiled sweetly to her Mom. Rose started to go in room. But Shama stopped her. Shama “ What did you plan for your life?” Rose looked confused. Rose “ Mom I am studying & completing my education. After getting degree I plan to marry nice boy..” “ I hope it’s not Rajat.” Rose gave angry look to her Mom. On that point first time Rose felt that she was rich. She began to think that she was truly rich. She said “ Mom money is never issue for me! You know it.” “ What?” Shama kept looking towards Rose. Shama didn’t understand what Rose was saying. Since when money was not issue for them? Shama knew that they were pretending but now in eyes of Rose she saw strange confidence. Shama asked “ Are you alright?” Rose nodded. She checked her for temperature. Rose was fine. “ Do you remember you are daughter of maid?” It clearly took Rose two minutes to grasp it. But then she nodded. It seemed as if she was totally forgotten about her mother’s occupation. Rose said “ I mean I can handle all.” Rose didn’t say anything. Rose just ran in her room. Rose immediately closed door of her room. Rose was so shocked. Rose didn’t understand why did she spoke like that. On that moment she felt as if she was rich girl. She knew that she didn’t have money. But on that point she felt that her Mom was her maid. She knew that she must not feel like that. She knew that Shama gave her every thing. She needed to respect her mother. But on that point she thought her Mom was a maid. Even now she was getting that feel. She looked towards herself in mirror. She didn’t feel that she was maid’s daughter. Suddenly she began to see different world in her mirror. She could see her perfect furniture. Her perfect rich life. She was so confident. She decided that her furniture was great. She knew that she was truly rich. She could call her friends. She looked towards her bed. It had that laptop on it for which she was waiting for days. She smiled happily. She turned back. She started to pick it up but it vanished. She didn’t understand how could she see it in mirror but not with her eyes. She kept looking around. Her furniture was old & out dated. Her sofa was that one which Shama bought from second hand shop. She once again turned to mirror. She could see different things in it. She could see all those luxuries which she desired. She began to think that she might needed to just bring them out. She knew that she couldn’t remove things from mirror. She kept telling herself that those things couldn’t come out. She was so confused. She wanted to ask her Mom did she saw them? She didn’t understand how could mirror kept them all. She began to think that she was getting mentally confused. Then she looked towards water bottle. She began to think that she might had drank something wrong. She drank alcohol sometimes but she never got such a confused in her mind. Her thoughts kept getting confused this time. She began to think what she had eat or drank. She remembered from which coffee shop she had drank coffee. She felt totally sure that she did mistake. She decided that she should sleep then it would be over. She slept.
Shama was so frustrated. She knew that her husband started to show few signs. In fact her husband was having bigger mental issues. She tired her best to hide them all. Even when he killed himself she pretended that he slipped by mistake & it was just accident. She was so expert at hiding all. But she knew that she couldn’t hide all if it happened with Rose then it would hard to hide from people. She knew that Rose would get married one day. She couldn’t teach her to hide it from her husband. She slowly started knocking on door of Rose’s room. Their house was one bedroom kitchen house. It was large enough for them. Rose got one room. It was costly to keep but still she kept it for Rose. She wanted everything for Rose. She tried so hard. She started knocking again. Finally after sometime Rose open her door. Rose was looking so sleepy. She didn’t understand how could she become so sleepy in few minutes. Shama asked “ What happened? Did you took something?” “ Mom I drank coffee in that new Coffee shop I feel it had something. I began to see strange things.” Shama began to get concerned. Shama “ Like what?” “ Well Mom I saw new laptop in mirror!” Shama began to feel strange fear in her mind. She couldn’t believe it. Rose was telling something so odd. Shama never told Rose about that mirror. Her husband used to talk about it. Shama knew that she never mentioned it. Shama ran to mirror. She kept watching it for hours. Shama began to cry slowly. She knew what was happening. Her daughter Rose was walking on footsteps of her husband. Shama “ Did you still see those things in mirror?” Rose turned. Rose didn’t see anything. Rose smiled & said “ I don’t. It was that coffee.” Then Rose went to her work in normal way. But Shama began to feel scared. Shama slowly came out of room. She went in corner of balcony. She slowly called Psychiatrist. Shama “ Doctor do you remember my husband’s case?” Psychiatrist didn’t recognise her. But Psychiatrist talked to her with patience. Psychiatrist asked name & case file. Then Psychiatrist told her that he needed to give her appointment for Rose. Shama “ I don’t feel my daughter will agree to visit.” “ But you need to bring her.” “ Can’t you suggest medicine on mobile?” Psychiatrist sounded angry when he said “ No.” then Psychiatrist stopped for some time. Psychiatrist “ Case of your husband appeared before me just now! He did suicide. It was serious issue. He took just half treatment then he vanished. You never come to me even after suicide! Cops came to me. I know your husband mental issue was not curable but we could have controlled it. He should have taken treatment. Now I suggest same thing for your daughter. Bring her here.” Shama thanked Psychiatrist & disconnected her call. It was clear that Psychiatrist was upset. But she was not sure that Rose would have issue. It was possible that her coffee had something. Rose went to sleep peacefully. Rose wake up next day. Rose looked towards mirror. She saw that room was having all those things but she didn’t want to tell it to Mom. She knew that she was rich & mirror was alive. She smiled then she got dressed for her college. She went to her classes. She was not interested in Tushar when Tushar came towards her. She showed clear disinterest. Then she noticed that other girl was calling Tushar. She sensed that Tushar was walking towards that girl. Tushar went to her & with her he went to lecture. Rose was so angry. She wanted to say no to him. She was rich now. She wanted to reject him. Then she saw Rajat. She immediately began to tell him about her mirror. He gave her shocked look. Then he literally ran away. He didn’t sense that Rajat was shaking with fear. Rajat didn’t want to start gossip. But he started to feel so sick. He saw that strange look in eyes of Rose. It managed to scare him. He told all to his friend. Slowly it started to spread. Rose didn’t sense that she kept talking about her mirror to many. She was excited so much. Finally she returned home. She didn’t told anything to her Mom. She kept watching those things & laughing. Shama was not in home. She was at home so no one was there to observe her actions. Her laughing with herself. She kept laughing & no one cared. She slowly even began to live her life with that mirror. She went to college every day & kept describing mirror. She didn’t sense that she was looking odd. She no longer cared for her weight gain. She didn’t even do exercises. She was perfect in that mirror. She kept seeing her perfect world in it. Finally one day one professor tried to talk to her. “ Rose why you are making these stories about magical mirror?” By this time entire class knew about her madness. She was sitting alone. They didn’t want to sit near her. She was feeling so restless. She tried to convince her professor that she got magical mirror. Finally she forcibly took her Professor in her home. Many students came with them. They all saw how poor Rose was. They sensed her lies but she didn’t care. She just wanted to show mirror. She took professor to mirror & started to show things. She was telling screaming about things. She began to tell others to see them. They didn’t see anything. Finally she got so excited. She wanted to take them out of her mirror. She worked so hard to show them. Without second thought she pushed her hand on mirror. Professor tried to stop her but she didn’t. Professor was thrown on other side. Students started to scream. Finally ten boys managed to hold her. They tied her to chair & called ambulance. Doctors came with Nurses. She was given injection. She slept peacefully. She began to feel relaxed. She just kept talking about Mirror.
Professor called Shama. She came to hospital. Soon Shama started crying. Shama told all to Psychiatrist. Psychiatrist gave her shock look. Psychiatrist “ I don’t know why did you took it in your head that your daughter had some mental issue due to your husband’s genetic. She had trouble since you forced her to pretend & she was getting stressed. She wanted one boy who rejected her since she didn’t have money. This story developed since she confessed that she saw some movie of magical mirror in childhood. You should have brought her long ago. She could be fine now. Any way now she needed to stay here for some days.” Then Psychiatrist told her bill. She looked at it. That was big bill but she nodded. She could do anything to protect her daughter. She went out of hospital with determination. She couldn’t cure her husband but she was going to cure Rose. She cleaned her tears & went back to her work. She needed to earn money & she needed to hide from all that Rose was in mental institution. She was going to tell Rose went in some hostel for studies. She decided it & smiled happily to pretend before world.
